My transmission went down on my 2010. Polaris had paid for the parts but I have to pay $1200 for the labors. It's funny because the have a kit to replace the junk they installed at the factory but the denied it's a problem like the bad spring suspension! What a ripped???

Yeah Vista, check some other dealers before you spend the $1,200.

Not having one in my garage just yet, is this something a person that has pulled apart motorcycle motors/trans etc. and put back together again could do? If there is some type of upgrade for it I'm wondering if they would just give it to me at the time of purchase and I would switch it out myself? I ain't scared :)

Yeah, first I've heard of this one too. Curious what the kit is.

My 2010 S just broke the trans this last week when on vacation in Colorado. Its got 41 hrs and 360 miles on it. Broke going downhill letting the engine do the braking,
low and AWD engaged. Reverse still works but jumps out of low or high. I checked the manufacture date on the frame behind the RF shock and it says 7/10/09. So does it have the redesigned parts already installed at the factory? I can`t believe the belt is stronger than the trans. If it already has the so called better parts in it I think I`ll be selling this P.O.S. since the trans can`t be trusted to get you back to camp.

What is the nature of the problem? My 2010 S has a build date of 3/25/10, and now has 1560 miles on it. If there is a problem with the tranny on pre-May 2010, what symptoms does it typically have?

Thanks, Kevin. None of that so far, so maybe I got lucky! On the flip side, this weekend I noticed it starting to make a sort of ticking sound when going downhill using engine braking. Louder in low than high. Might also be an exhaust leak, but check that.

mine went down over a month and a half ago, just got the parts...

2010 S, just out of warranty.. polaris will not give me a reason why they discontinued the 2010 parts and have the "upgraded" kit. I already know why, but I want to hear why polaris mysteriously recognized the problem, comes out with a fix but won't cover the rzrs with the old part numbers that are a ticking time bomb. its only a matter of time before rzr owners 2010 prior to 5-17-2010 manufacture date will have problems. Maybe we should start a posting how many hrs and miles we had when they went down. from the other owners i have read about its been about 35-40 hrs and almost 500 miles before they pop. also usually breaks in AWD and L. Mine did.

There was a guy a few months ago posting about a similar problem with a 2010 rzr. He went on quite a rant as I recall. Claims to have been banned from here because of his "negativity", which I find very hard to believe. Has posted his saga on another website (still recommends this one though) detailing his lemon law proceedings in texas. Last post was on 7/7/10 with no resolution.

I should have reworded my post :)

I should have said not TOTALLY true. I bought a new rzr, but didnt know about the trans problem, until i joined this forum which i did AFTER i bought my rzr. My dad also purchased a rzr 2 days after me, and his was built 10 days after mine, well before the 5-2010 mark. :(

I blew mine in March. Now I am concerned that the replacement trans is also one of the bad ones. I have the extended warranty but want to install a turbo. If I have a turbo and the trans does fail it is fairly certain the extended warranty company will not cover it. Well this sucks.

Ours would only run in reverse.
Tranny had to be removed and rebuilt.
Happened at 23 hours.

Polaris warranty picked it up.
Warranty is only as good as the dealers attitude.
The extended warranty and a good dealer are essential in owning a Rzr S.

Amazingly fragile vehicles.
Fun as all get-out,, but they break real easy.

Everybody thinks this is a 2010 issue but its not, there are topics on here talking about 08.09.09s and 2010s doing the same thing. If you look up the part, the same shaft and part number is in every rzr regardless of model since the first one rolled off the line in 6 of 07 all the way thru summer of 21010. The new shaft and part number do not show upo till the 2011 model.

I'm in one of the previously listed posts. Bought the 2010 machine first week of Jan. Sometime in Feb the transmission started popping out of low gear then grinding until the machine was stopped. After reading the other posts, found it was a "known" issue by polaris. Something about parts that were made too soft. I talked the dealer into talking Polaris into sending them a whole transmission, which they did. No problems since. Took a month to get the machine back.

It's not a upgraded part. It's actually the parts that were in the 09 transmission. They changed the 2010's because they were trying to make it easier to shift out of gear when on incline's. Well they made it easier alright. Now they jump out of low gear all on their own. Mine went out 2 weeks out of warranty. Lucky for me, my dealer contacted Polaris and they goodwill repaired it for nothing. I did tear all the body parts down to the frame for them, before dropping it off, to save them and me some time.

I ride mine in low everywhere we go. Unless I am on hardpack. But here in Texas we are mostly in the mud and tight trails, so we don't get over 10 to 15 mph very often. If you read the manual, it actually suggest riding in low if off road, and below 20 mph. Ever since they repaired mine I have not had anymore issues. But my friend who bought his 2 months after mine in October of 09, his is in the shop right now for the same issue.

I don't understand how some people are getting a goodwill repair and I can't even get a response why they changed the part number and admit their fault in this matter. All I got was two rejections from polaris, first one stating I was out of warranty. No duh. Second one was a letter and it said, no extended warranty was purchased... Deny. And how about that BS customer service number you call, in which all they do is act as a middle man between you and the dealer. What a waste.

Not sure what to say the system seems flawed in some way, some are getting them fixed out of warranty then some are not is their some sort of communication problem or a favoritism problem, only choices I see are to continue to try and get them to warranty the known problem or seek out your consumer protection options or hire a lawyer, its not a inexpensive part or repair, its obvious to everybody their is a real problem with many units, the owners did not create the problem, a design change was made and it was either not tested properly or their quality controls was not tight enough so now were seeing a bunch of premature failures.

One thing to keep in mind is the dealer your having submit it to Polaris for repair, I was talking to one Polaris dealer service manager and in the conversation on warranty repairs and dealing with the tech department at Polaris he said if you piss off the tech guys at Polaris he has seen 2 things happen ONE is they start denying warranty claims they use to allow, TWO when you call Polaris for help after you have pissed them off you automatically spend 30 minutes on hold before they will help you then the help is not very good, its almost as if your on a black ball list, I was shocked to hear about the hatred between the dealers and the factory, I have witness this at more than one dealer, the feelings at 4 dealers I have talked to so far is the same.

Spend a day go talk to dealers, go to the parts counter chat with the service manager and the mechanics you will learn way more than you might ever think about the Polaris system.

Anybody keeping count on how many transmission failures?

Good luck hopefully they will do the right thing and make the repair.
