Grinding noise/ Popping out of gear

I got my new 2010 RZR S stuck in the snow and broke the belt with 8 KMs on it. Was told I probably should of broke in the belt for longer, and I understand that, makes sense. So i towed it back to the house and put a new belt on and left it for the night. I went to load it the next day on a tilt trailer. when i pulled up to the trailer i was already in AWD and it began grinding (front or back wheels would not spin). So friged with the shifter and moved around the yard where it intermitly "jumped out of gear" (would gring and no tires would spin) mostly while in AWD and under load. I checked the shifter cable and there is no stain on it. I detached the cable on the tranny side and the shifter arm "clicks" between gears so it is not like the cable "holds" the tranny in gear. If a chunk of the belt is stuck in the clutch anytwhere, is it possible to get a grinding noise from something not completley activating?

Re: Grinding noise?

Sounds like something in the trans to me like the gears are not completely meshing ?

Does this in low high and reverse 2wd and awd ?

When you towed it home it was in neutral ?

Could be something caused by it being cold? How cold did it get when you let it set all night?

I remember reading something about letting the belt warm up by letting the engine idle for 5 min in cold weather.

Hope its still under warranty...

Re: Grinding noise?

done it in high and low, not reverse yet (havn't really tried) and just in awd. will try again tonight. Sorry should of said i trailer it. Was not really that cold maybe -5C. I let it warm up for a minute but would think if it is grinding the clutch is spinning the transmission. Warrenty? LOL i hope, i picked it up Friday and this happened Sunday

Oh no its that new, I would call the dealer ASAP and just let them deal with it, what you described sounds so far from being anything normal operation you should not have to mess with it, depending on whats wrong I would push for a new belt too.

Let us know how you make out.

Re: Grinding noise?

If you abused it enough to break that new big belt on a 010, then you could have damaged something else.

It kinda makes you wonder if something inside the trans failed then partly or fully locked up the trans putting extra strain on the belt then the belt poofkaboom, never seen someone trying to get unstuck while driving anything including animals that went easy on it usually its WOT forward then WOT backwards.

Re: Grinding noise?

You probably have a chunk stuck in your primary somewhere. Blow everything out and check for little fibers or rubber chuncks stuck in the works.

You don't have to be hard on something to get it stuck or unstuck. I wouldn't think spinning or reving a motor would be classified as abuse. And it got stuck in snow in a ditch. inside of belt/clutch housing wasn't even damp, so i don't think it sucked in any snow. Was moving backwards fine (about 10feet from spot it was stuck) , stoped put it in low and nothing.

Grinding going into gear or grinding when it already is in gear?

in gear moving then pops out of gear when under load. sounds the same as if i reved it up and tried to shift then.

Re: Grinding noise?

Its possible, getting debris jammed into your clutching can cause all sorts of issues...but honestly your problems sounds a bit worse than that. If it is new, take it into the dealership, you shouldnt have these kinds of problems when its this new. I dont think ive ever heard of someone blowing a belt with that low of mileage, broken in or not.

Re: Grinding noise?

yeah i called the sales guy i delt with and he seemed really surprised. I already fixed it so they may reimburse me for the price of the belt. I would be happy with that. Took the bike to the dealer about an hour ago. Tried it again and it only seems to happen in low awd, hopefully just some adjustment on the shifter (crossing my fingers)
