Code "27", what is it?

2010 rzr-s, the engine is backfiring badly intermittently, keeps stalling after cold start up, doesn't want to stay at idle, and now showing a CODE 27,

Anyone know what a code 27 is? It is not listed in my 2008 repair manual.

Also to note before this problem, RZR run fine, then after sitting 3 weeks, battery went completely dead. Put the booster/charger on overnight. After next day, it won't idle, backfires like a shotgun noise, and triggers code 27
Thanks

Code 27 is "TPS SET ERROR"..take it to the dealer..
Throttle Position Sensor reading is off...the newer models check the TPS reading at start up..and set that as a base line...if the reading is outside the normal range it throws the code.

In that case, it is very possible I used the gas pedal while starting. It had a dead battery, charged it up a bit, tried to start it, still half dead, left the battery charger on 24 hrs.

I then started it, did not let it warm up, immediately tried driving, it kept stalling, and for sure at that point I begin using gas pedal at same time.

QUESTION: How can I reset the computer ? Will a battery disconnect over night work?

Pull the plugs and take a look at them. See if they are black, if they are replace them (you can also clean them with a propane torch but for $2.50 a piece I'd replace). I don't know if you can reset the computer but if you have to adjust the tps read these:

it doesn't require a trip to the dealership to set the tps. Pulling your plugs will give you a good idea whether or not the tps it out of spec

First off...now that I am rested and re-read your post...the 1st thing you need to do IMO is check your charging/battery situation. Low voltage can cause these machines to run like crap. Check your battery voltage, then start it and check it at idle

If that is fine..
On the newer machines the ECU takes a TPS reading each time the engine is started. If the only issue was you pushing the pedal while you started it then the next time you start it without pushing the pedal it should run fine, regardless of the code being there,so if it doesn't run fine something is a miss. No a TPS adjustment doesn't reqire a trip to the dealer..but on a brand new machine that has warranty alot of people doen't want to mess with stuff..
You can check it...if the TPS is set right and the battery voltage is good but it is still running like crap then take it in...I'm all about working on my own stuff...but you have to be careful...leave evidence you worked on it and they can deny warranty should the need arise...
TPS voltage Key On Engine Off should be .68v-.73v...that is what the ECU is looking for outside that range and you get a code and the ECU uses a default table.
If for some strange reason the TPS was loose and moved if will generally move to a lower reading(if you have ever adjusted on you know what I mean..as soon as you loosen the screw it will rotate) and therefore will cause a lean condition(not rich)...ie as you open the throttle plates the ECU is looking for a certain voltage and by the time it gets that voltage the throttle is alot further open than it should be...

My 6 month warranty ran out. Had a transmission shaft replaced at only 10 hours use, just couple days before warranty ran out.

Excellent advice you have given. I do suspect battery related possible problem. Also, I had swapped out the key/ignition switch from my 2008 RZR, in attempt to diagnose an intermittent issue on the older 2008. Found out the 2008 key switch is needing replacement. I am not sure if the faulty key switch I put onto the 2010 S may have triggered this TPS problem.

I had the ignition switch just hanging under the dash, not in the dash hole, when rzr started the ignition switch kinda started swaying, at which time it seemed to short out....when I held it in one position, the engine would keep running, when I let go out of my hand, engine would stall.

Will be following your advice immediately after getting a new key switch, or swap the original 2010 key switch back in place.

I believe the older was only for early 2008 models wasn't it? I don't want to give him the wrong info! When I was looking through the forums I know some people where attributing problems like yours with ignition wiring. Something with the wiring harness for the switch.
