How much movement should I have from the yoke that comes from the trans to the front drive shaft. I can grab the drive shaft and move it 1/16". I am getting a rattle noise at a certain rpm and cant thing anything. Thanks

They get play in them quite quickly. If you give it a good greasing it should be quiet for about 50 or 75 miles, then you may hear it a tiny bit at certain speed. If only a little not much to worry about. When it starts vibrating at higher speed or you reach down and it's loose by a lot change your propshaft out. I have seen many be loose at 5,000 to 6,000 miles .

I just replaced the prop shaft assembly on mine....the ujoints will also cause a vibration sound. Mine made the sound at idle at times too, also would go away when swithed to 4wd.

dont think mine was bad enough to break, but the jingle and viberation noises were driving me nuts

The front yoke had no play but the u joints had some and the rear yoke....replaced shaft noises gone.

I noticed a lot of play recently on my yokes as well. I don't have any noise, but the amount of play worries me that it might be damaging the pinion shaft and trans shaft. I might be over reacting, but I like to fix things BEFORE they break and cost me more money. I was looking at the SuperATV prop shaft, is that no good ? I've had pretty good luck with SuperATV products before.

only reason I didnt use the SuperATV shaft because nobody could give me a straight answer as to how their shaft fit 2008-2014 but Polaris listed different shaft assembly part numbers between 2010 and 2011...then they got back with me weeks later and said the SuperATV shaft was made shorter to work on all years? Thats why I used OEM shaft.

As far as the play after replacing part....no play at all on front yoke or joints, and very slight play at the rear. If my old shaft wasnt making noise it would have stayed on machine.

Just spoke with one of the guys at SuperATV. He said their prop shafts have only been on the market about 4 months and they've sold about 30 so far, and nobody has called with any complaints. Supposedly, the metal "quality" is atleast equal to OEM and the fit is supposedly tighter. He said several of their guys have been running some as "test items" and have more than 1000 miles on them without any issues. Now I know that could just be typical salesman BS, but I've had good luck with their products so far. I think I'm going to give it a shot.

I have replaced the u-joints in 3 different rzrs in the last few months...all 3 had play between the front diff, and yolk.

On one(mine) I drilled and tapped 1/4 20 on both sides, to "lock" the shaft on the diff splines. Has worked fine for about 500 miles and countless hours of plowing.

On another (my brothers) he opted to buy a new front yolk from fleabay(his is the newer version with internal clips)...The casting was horrible and took quite a bit of grinding to get the u-joint in(the one they sent) and clips to set in place.

The third(brother in law) just got new u-joints and put back. Still more play at front diff than would like to have. But all vibe and noise is gone.

All three have no more vibration in 2wd. From what Ive researched, play at the front diff is almost imminent...maybe I'm wrong?

Where are you finding just the yokes for replacement ?

Depending on what year the machine is the yokes are sold separately...the older machines the rear yokes were not available OEM...and its my understanding the parts arent interchangeable from the newer years, but thats never been personally confirmed.

From what it looks like on the parts sites, the 08 & 09 800 prop shafts have been replaced/ updated to the same prop shaft as the 10 800...which says you can also buy the replacement front yoke separately. The 11-14 800 carries a different prop shaft part number than the 08-10, BUT carries the same front yoke part number as the updated 08-10 prop shaft, same u-joint part numbers, and can purchase the rear yoke separately.

What I can't figure out from the diagrams is if the rear yoke of an 11 will work on the updated 08 prop shaft. It should fit fine on the prop-shaft, but I don't know if the splines are the same. Anybody know ??? If the spline count is the same, then in theory IF you have 10 or newer, or the updated prop-shaft on the 08 or 09, you SHOULD be able to buy replacement yokes.

Its my understanding the splines are the same...but the front diff was beefed up in 2011 causing the overall length of the prop shaft assembly to change. This may be why the prop assembly numbers are different from 2010 to 2011?

Super ATV claims their prop shaft fits all years of RzR's.

Could be. That would make sense.

Before I ordered parts I looked at my Buddies 800 that was bought the same day as mine and has the same amount of miles and the yoke on his has as much play as mine. I guess I don't understand why they have any play at all. I wonder if they design it to have play or it's cheap parts that wear quickly.

How can you tell if the yokes are loose or if it's just the u-joints? I hear some jingling and clanking sounds from underneath and figured its my propshaft. I took the seats out and can grab the shaft and easily wiggle it. I don't mind the work and would much rather spend $25-$30 on u-joints than $250 on a whole shaft assembly. Also I saw some said that the noises went away when they switched to 4wd. I haven't tried that yet, but if they do go away when 4wd is engaged, does that still mean it is the propshaft making the noise? Will it hurt to drive it without a propshaft installed to see if that is where my noise was coming from?

You must not be greasing the rear yoke? its easily seen after removing the rear panel behind your seats and for the front simply look directly behind your front differential.

The seats, rear panel, console around shifter, roll pin, front pass side tire, and axle will all need removed to replace the prop shaft.
