How many miles should I expect to get out of my XP before I need to do engine work?

How many miles should I expect to get out of my XP engine before having to replace it?

I think Tim (Swingarm ) got over 7000 miles out of his XP without major, if any, engine work, but I'll let him confirm that. You might PM hondabob..a while back he was racking up miles at a rate most of us only wish we had the opportunity match..
With that said "how long is it supposed to last" is such a general statement..components wear at different rates..what kind of maintenance do you do? It isn't just going to turn into dust one day..:) Keep it breathing clean air, keep the oil and filter changed , do scheduled maintenance by the book and ride it often and it"ll probably be longer than you might think before you have any problems.

Im pushn 4000 with no problems.all about how u take care of it.
pretty sure all these 5, 20, 50, 100, 150, 200, 300 miles engine grenading has nothing to do with maintenance.

Have you seen how any of them ride... I haven't either... Allowing the motor to warm up to operating temps before hammering the chit out of it does wonders for longevity... The fire and blast off technic doesn't help longevity, the motors need to warm up so everything has a chance to expand via the heat they produced...

I have 7000+ on my XP and not 1 part failure...

I had 6k on my 800 and 2k on my 2012. Mostly dunes high rpm riding. I change the fluids a couple of times a year and drive it like I stole it. I hear what you are saying Tim but sometimes you just gotta go. :)
I have been on this board from the beginning (look at my member ID number) the 1% is going to hate no matter what. I think the vast majority of people have no issues. Look at the board posts as a whole and you see a few here and there. I think if the issue was rampant I think we would see a few more posts. I think a lot of the quality control issues can be directed at the dealer.
Battery cables not connected, no oil in the motor/drivetrain and so on.
I am going to put my abstestos suit on now in preperation for the flaming.

Other factors: Climate / terrain.

Alot of the machines with many thousands of miles are not mud bogging or rock climbing.

Not sure what is harder on a machine, I will leave that to experts and keep my opinions to my self. But I will say technical trails eat bushings, bend radius rods, etc...

Consider the average RPM's on most rhinos vs. the RPM's ANY XP averages....hard to compare the 2. Rhinos are putting machines.....yes they can me heavily modified, but then they arent reliable.

So stock for stock, go ride a rhino at 7500 rpm's 90% of your time day in and day out and see how long it lasts!

I am not saying yamaha doesnt build quality machines....cause they do no doubt! But its the same story like people ragging on can-am for shit breaking when they add 30" tires and clutch kits on a 70hp machine. Then they rave about how their grizzly with all 30hp never had any problems!

Bottom line, you cant compare a race car to a street car....same logic applies with the XP.

After having a Honda Fourtrax 300 before I purchased a Polaris I was a little leery about it as far as reliability was concerned. After talking to the shop manager at the dealership I realized they aren't any worse than any other machine. What he told me is the most common thing that people break around here is the front end from people jumping them in AWD. Other than that he said that they hold up quite well for people that treat them properly. This guy I know very well and I trust him not to lie to me.

Some people just do not see the warning signs before mechanical failure... some people will submerge their ATV in water and mud. Some people will place blame on others. There are many variables.
