XP Demo Units

Curious what the overall thought was on the forum when it comes to picking up a demo unit? I just got a call and know a few of the other local shops had a few they sold as well.

Obviously the cost will be discounted but I'm a little worried about the first 30 - 50 miles everyone put on the XP's. If I were told to demo it and see what broken I'd beat the living snot out of it. Still comes with a 6 month warranty and for something like this I'd be looking long and hard at an extended warranty.

So the question is....if you had the chance would you buy a demo'd XP rather than hold your spot for the next shippment of brand new ones which still looks to be 2 - 3 weeks out?

This is my thoughts also.. I'm one of those people that beleives in breaking in new engines/machines. With a Demo its a safe bet break in was seeing if they could break it.. If your one of the guys that are just going to drive it like you stole it the day you bring it home anyway, then I'd say it doesn't matter. I've known several people that do this and they have had several Lemons. Heck one guy to this day won't buy a Chevy truck because he had a brand new 2005 blow an engine with less then 10k miles.. Forget the fact he drove it like a dumbass from mile one..

If it was one of the 30 demos units that they had out in AZ recently for the Polaris introduction of the XP, I'd buy one.

Somebody who was there can correct me if I'm wrong, but it looked to me that they were under pretty good supervision and even if the machines were "pushed" a bit, it wouldn't be anything I wouldn't have subjected it to.

The price would be the main factor. I'd also insist on a complete fluid change, documented, and a deal on a 3 year warranty. :)

10 miles on a new unit. I've test driven some commanders etc at dealerships with that many in test ride miles on it. ;)

All fluids etc will be replaced and it will come with normal warranty, etc. Few scratches/pin stripping on the flares, but that's going to happen the second I think the trails anyway.

I've always done a break-in on my toys exactly as I will ride them, and while I don't plan on beating the living $hit out of them, I do see what they got ;) We'll see what a visual inspection shows after they've gone through the mechanical parts.

Go on youtube and find the video of the dealer employess jumping their demo XP off the loading dock. Thats why I would never buy a demo unit. Not saying that the loading dock jump ruined it, but if they get treated like that then you know the drivers dont give a hoot about breaking something on the machine.

My gut feel would be that there was supervision of sorts and that NO rep went there to put one on its side or be sent home for doing so.

But here is what I would have done as Dude in charge: every one of those XPs was tested BEFORE that event, operated a little and washed.
Last thing you want is a virgin fresh unit right off the factory assy. line with a petty issue that surfaces at a Rep outing.
No way in hell I would send them out to AZ without being 99.99% certain MY event was a hit. I have to think those XPs had seen a few hours first.

Sorry, I don't usually shoot from the hip or mis-manage. Not my projects.

I would buy one if it would save a grand or more and get a deal on the extended warranty.

Those commenting about the jump above. I doubt that was sold as a demo. It was probably sold as new unit with 2 miles on it.

I am with Mark on this hell if I was in the market I would buy that exact one in the video jumping off the dock. If they can't handle that they won't last long. I would need to save some money over a new non used unit though.

Do you guys get groceries on Sunday with yours or do you ride the thing like it was intended to be riden? I don't just beat my stuff but I do run it to the potential of the machine if it breakes I fix it.

Not completely against buying a Demo..but after looking at a few demo mahines over the years..and the dealers wanted retail or very close to it....and try to justify it because it has a full warranty. I'd wait unless the deal was sweet. I get it you want one now..down the line you'll wish you would have waited for a new one..
If you are doing it for the deal go for it..if you are doing it because you are in a hurry to get one now..just wait. JMO
