Who wears a helmet?

I see so many sxs videos and most of the guys are not wearing a helmet or are wearing skull caps.
I would never think of riding mine without. But does the roll cage add a sense of security I just don't appreciate?

There is no excuse to not wear a helmet IMO. With modern technology, they are comfortable, add protection, dont limit line-of-sight, and are relatively cheap. Without your melon you are useless, might as well do everything you can to protect it.

While I understand why some folks do not wear helmets (freedom, vision, wind in hair, don't need one because of the cage, don't mind headaches, etc), it is certainly their choice, but for God's sake put a lid on your kid's bean. Their skulls are not nearly as thick as the adults and cannot take anywhere near as much abuse. You may not give a crap about your own noodle but please, give a crap about theirs!

I don't wear one as I don't feel the need. If I was racing in Baja or trying to jump my RZR 10' off the ground I probably would. These threads pop up from time to time and people tend to feel pretty strong either side of the fence they are on.. Problem I have with people calling the other side stupid for their choice, is exactly why we keep having all these nanny laws passed. One of those kind of guys gets in office and decides everyone who doesn't think like them is stupid and decides we needs laws to make everyone do what he thinks is right...Sorry for the rant.
I look at it like this, My truck is 7500 pounds has 400 HP and 760 torq,, I drive it at speed in access of 70+ pretty much everytime I get in it. Most of the time when I do this I'm packed in with other vehicles all going just as fast half of them are either talking on their damn phones, putting on makeup or eating cheese burgers. I don't wear a helmet in it either. Even though I'm pretty sure the odds of me having a Major wreck in it are much higher then my little 2 banger 90 HP RZR which already has 5 points and a DOM cage, Which 90% of my riding is done in low gear. I'm sure all of us would be safer in both if I wore a fire suit and a helmet at all times, Just saying

You feel more safe in your RZR than in a street legal vehicle that must go through one of the most rigorous safety tests of any vehicle? Interesting...

I ride my RZR like I stole it, and most people riding around me do the same. I feel far more safe cruise controlled down the freeway.

Agreed on the personal opinions thing though. Do what you want!

we were in Glamis, so yeah...I wore one.

The 1st chance I got, I would take it off and scratch, scratch, scratch my scalp.

I've tried everything. A "dew" rag. Cleaning my hair well. Not cleaning my hair well. Gold Bond Medicated powder (read that somewhere lol) Wetting my hair down. It started the first time I wore it, so it's not dirt. The second we're off...I'm itching. It's very distracting and distressing. We're now on Ogilby road, and I've not worn it when we're out on our RZR. We're just putzin' along, though. If we were on the dunes I would wear it.

ps. There are a lot of rzr riders out here. Not ONE has had a helmet on *shrug*

When fast duning, yes or as in the second pic, when just standing there I guess.. :D
I didn't used to but as I've gotten more used to and confident with my XP900 I've gotten into wearing it.
On the trails of Arkansas when just cruising, not so much.
I have head sets and would like to transfer that or set up my/our helmets, any recommendations for my 50 watt VHF radio with intercom ? Something that would work with about any MX style helmet.... Thanks for any help!!

Rugged makes a quick install helmet kit that attaches with Velcro...

I've had helmets save me motorcycling and mountain biking. Seeing enough video on this forum of what happens when the buggy rolls over, and it will, helmets are a real good idea. I've got a pair of full coverage helmets, wired with headsets through an intercom with tunes, which makes them nice to have.

Although not required here in Az...I have always worn one. I have seen far too many times the results of someone smacking their noggin against the rollcage at slow or fast speeds. Its not about the look, but about the ride imo. I have drivensport bikes for years and still can't comprehend why most Harley guys don't helmet up. It's still your choice. My kids always helmet up, its always been the primary rule for us. I have to set an example for them by wearing mine too.

Having rolled my old sportsman onto myself and my head (I was wearing a helmet) and (turning uphill front wheel caught a hole covered by leaves going 2 mph) I know i would have been much worse off. As someone said, they have gotten a ton more comfortable and it keeps my head warm in the 5 degree weather. Just plowing the driveway i wouldn't bother but anytime i'm on the trail or road i'll wear it. But its definitely a personal choice, if you don't want to, you certainly ought to be able to make that decision. just my humble opinion.

I do,it doesnt hurt to have it on,but its gonna hurt if i dont have it on and i or someone else makes a wrong decision. Have you ever heard anyone say, "I wish I never had that helmet on when it rolled"? I havent, Ive heard them say they were glad they had it on several times though. Its not just for rolling or hiting a tree or anything like that but if youve gotten smacked in the face by a branch before you know it frickin hurts,so a helmet protects more than just rolling or wrecking. (tends to be the case more on an atv than the sxs, since the roll cage blocks most) but it still happened to me in the woods on the RZR.

I have gotten used to wearing one since we dune in CA most of the time but I have to admit that over the weekend we went out for a short ride in the desert and I didn't have it on. I had it with me but the wife took it to ride a quad and she hadn't brought hers along. Guess I would rather have her with a helmet on the quad. We have grandkids that ride so we also set the example by wearing ours.

Those who are old enough can remember back in the 70's when they started making seat belts mandatory. That is how I got my kids trained to always buckle up. If I didn't they always reminded me to be safe. Whose to say in a few years that helmets won't become second nature just like seatbelts have.

Anytime I'm fun riding I strap my 4 point harness on and wear my helmet. I try to make a good example for my daughter. Plus, I never know when I'm fixing to do something stupid and I have had a couple close calls. It's better to be prepared for the worse and not need the safety equipment than to be ill prepared and need the protection.

I didnt before I saw what happened to a buddy during a nasty crash in St. Anthony. Ever since then, ANYONE in my RZR wears one. I would wrather put up with the "uncomfortable" feeling then have no feeling at all. If you get a helmet that fits really well, they are not uncomfortable in my opinion. To each their own.
Thanks

Tomorrow will be 5 years since I buried my older brother who took 11 days to die after a head injury. It wasn't related to ATV or UTV driving but a slipping on some ice and striking his head on his car. Didn't seem like much at first, we kinda laughed about it. But it doesn't take much to kill you at all. Wear the helmet..you never know.
