Ok, so this subject came up in another thread and I figured it was worth starting a new one so the other thread did not get hijacked.

I have been running the recommended polaris oil since day one with no problems of buring inbetween changes. I am due for my third oil change. After hearing stories of pros and cons of both fully synthetic and semi synthetic I have began to wounder which is best.

Who is using what oil, for how long, and why?

I dont mind paying price for good oil but I can change the oil in my Jeep diesel for cheaper than changing my two quarts of polaris oil. I run 5w30 MobileOne fully synthetic in it.

Woundering why the RZR calls for an oil that no one else makes. Is it the money or does the RZR really need it?

The new Polaris oil is supposedly 0-50. I am guessing a lot of oil consumption complaints are from breaking the motor in with synthetic oil. Most "experts" say to use dyno oil during the break in period. So I am wondering if the oil that comes in the new machines is synthetic. It sure would save all the OEM's a ton of money by sending out their vehicles with dyno oil. Oh, and make them a ton of money by selling synthetic after the sale.

In the winter you should base your decision on the lowest temperature you will encounter, in the summer, the highest temperature you expect. The polymers can shear and burn forming deposits that can cause ring sticking and other problems. Very few manufactures even recommend using oil with more than a 30 point spread unless they truly need it. Do you think the 0w50 could have something to do with the common problem of blowing rings? Anyways I think I am set on using a lower spread oil, 0w40 from Amsoil.

I used to get Mobil 1 0W40 at Walmart but now my local store doesn't even have a tag on the shelf for that. Been reading great reviews of Shell Rotella-T 5W40 in the streetbike forums so now I'm using that. Full synthetic for $20 a gallon at Wally's.

Mobil 1 0-40

I tried to order the Polaris oil but it was some wonky 0-50 stuff and I got the impression I was being stuck on the regular ATV oil because they didn't want to buy a load of oil for the 2 RZRs they've sold. The label gave the impression of some old stuff in any case. They said the part number had changed, but when I researched the part numbers almost nobody had the "new" part number listed - and the ones that did were really outdated!

I've been running the Polaris oil. Would it benefit me to change to a different brand? Is one better than the other? Also, I have a 2011rzr s and on the last two oil changes that I did, it only took 1 1/2 quarts to get to the full line. Its only held that amount since day 1. The manual says to fill with two quarts, but I have not, because I'm afraid of overfilling. Anyone else have this happen with their rzr's? Should I fill with two quarts anyway? Thanks
