What to look out for in a used 800s?

Looking to a used 800S, what do I need to lookout for on these to make sure it's good to go? Any years to stay away from? Power steering a big deal on these machines? I know there aftermarket to add if it doesn't have it. The problem I'm having is it seems everyone around here wants close to new or new price with or without mods (doors, windshield, etc). It's hard to justify spending $10k+ on say a used 2011+ when I can buy a new 900S without power steering from Abernathys for $12,250 OTD (farm exempt so no taxes) and not have to pay for insurance like I would with a bank loan. I know, I know, some say insurance is a must. But I'm the 7+ years I've owned a quad and had loans I've never had the need for it. Home owners insurance covers me at the house from theft/loss in fire, storm, etc.

So what say you from the guys here on the forum?

on top of the usual fluids, miles, paperwork, history, condition of the machine, scars on the undercarriage:

dust in the intake past the filter
wollowing of the frame holes around the control arms

Those are two things to look for that can tell me how a rzr has been used and if its going to be good for us.

Have you tried a search on this?
Most people who are asking that much for their used Rzr likely still owe that much on their credit cards for all the accessories LOL

i have my 2010 S listed for $7800 and nobody seems interested. Its a solid machine. Im afraid if you drop to a reasonable price, people think something is wrong with it. Book value on a 2010 is $8700.

You're right on buying a used 12-13 800S. why pay $11,000 for one when you can get a new 900S for about $14,000

I love my 800 s it may not be as powerful as the 900 or 1000 xp but it's never broken down or blown a belt. And you can always add a turbo later for more power.

I just bought a used 2011 800s for 8200. Has doors roof heater winch light bar windshield and snorkel kit. The snorkel kit worried me when I seen the pictures though. I figured I'd go meet him and look at it. Older man and his wife owned it. I asked him why he would put the snorkel on if he never went in deep water. He said if he ever found himself in a position where he needed it the it was worth it's weight in gold. Lol. Machine was very clean and nice. But I would tell you to check the prop shaft I guess that's what they call it. (Center driveshaft) see if it's wore out and loose. I didn't know about this issue and mine is wore out. You can get them down on price if it is. Just my opinion. Also. The dirt passed the air filter inside the tube is a very good thing to check. Could show you if a top end may need rebuilt. Good luck.

agreed!! our 09 LE 800 and 09 S 800 were such wicked reliable and tough machines!

Only reason we bit the bullet and went xp1000 is because we definitely wanted the more power to turn snow tracks and the more room is nice... we plan to keep these suckers for 10,000 miles this time.

$7800 is a dang good price
I sell alot of stuff on CL.
Pictures and a good add go a LONG WAY towards catching somebody's eye. Need to make them see yours is the best deal, make it look as professional as possible. Thats what has worked for me! Wifes 09 S Rzr sold in less then one day for $10K even., mine I ended up trading in after being on CL for two weeks. I learned later if I would have dropped my price I would have made another $1500 off the purchase of my machine. Was asking $11,500...down to $9500 in two weeks, traded it in for $7500 down on new xp. Two serious buyers called within 3 days of trading at the $8500-9000 mark I would have had a buyer.

Funny thing my wifes old Rzr is for sale again on CL! same price we sold it to them last year for.. now with even more upgrades!!

alot of it has to do with time of year around here, seasonal side by side sales and how many used units are on CL seems to drive the price market.
