2014 Rzr 900 4 2 regulators in 9 months
2015 Ranger Crew less than 20 hours. Stranded me 15 miles in woods while hunting. Another Voltage regulator. I was lucky enough that my hunting partner was driving past a dealer and they had one. Sat in wood for 3 hours for him to get to me.

What is hilarious is that Polaris won't do a thing. They say there is no issues with them. Even funnier the dealer I bought it from said they never heard of this problem and they are largest dealer in Florida. Waiting to see if the handle this the right way. Oh yea bought 3 rangers from them this month. Think they give a hoot?

Complete joke.

If the vehicle is still under warranty have them do a VDO for you. I refuse to believe any dealer hasn't heard of this issue. In the past month alone I've ordered 6 regulators for the 900S/900 Ranger and 2 for the 900XP/1000XP. I personally have went through 2 Polaris regulators on my 2014 900 RZR and finally switched over to a Ricks one about a month ago. I'm hoping it lasts.

I've been working at a Polaris dealer for about a year and a half and honestly the last 6 months were the first we started having issues with them. Before that we had no issues at all. It's like they all hit at once. I really don't know if it's a faulty regulator or if it's the bad spot they put it in. In front of the rear wheel is just a bad spot for water and mud to get all over it. I noticed on the new Turbo they moved it up by the radiator tho so they definitely know there's an issue.

ok guys,
what happens with a faulty voltage regulator, like what are the symptoms?
i have pulled two codes this weekend, one for ecu over voltage and one for accelerator position 2 under voltage.
could this be due to a voltage regulator? i did check last night and my VR was completely covered in mud, i wonder if thats just causing it to overheat,
i have read a lot about these VRs failing but nobody really goes into detail on the symptoms..

you will get a check engine code and it will flash lo vol-if you get that code put the bike in park or neutral rev engine up and watch the voltage display become erratic, bike can stall out as well. dead battery as system will not charge. If you are stranded unplug it and jump the bike.

Mine went with minimal symptoms at first. Mostly would notice power steering cutting out then lights and radio. Did it only a few times on one ride. Rode it about 3 more times just gravel road cruising and only had one instance of problems. Then went to ride, got to where I was going and as soon as I would touch the throttle, the voltage would spike throwing codes and even killing the bike at one point. Everything is load protected so it killed the fuel injectors and etc.

And the over-voltage code was shown on my bike as well.

I am having cooling fan issues as in cooling fan want work , Replaced the 20amp circuit and the 12v relay , checked all
Wiring , even unplugged the temp sensor . NO FAN , if hot wired to battery fan works fine , pulled a code and it reads engine temp sensor voltage to high , could this be the voltage regulator Yal speak of . I have 2014 rzr 900xp under 200 miles , warranty out 2nd owner VERY FRUSTRATED

Not to sound stupid , but electrical is unfortunate not my thing , very mechanical just not good with electrical , where should I check the voltage and what should it be , should rzr be running when checked . , I have like I said checked continuity on every wire I could and replaced , circuit and relay .

From the Ace Forum and other places around here, placement is a real issue.

The voltage regulator on my 2015 900 XP is mounted perfectly for it to get covered in mud and overheat. I pay close attention to it and keeping the mud washed off.

I have seen some aftermarket covers that presumably keep it cleaner by blocking mud from the rear wheel. They do need to be made in such a way as to click off or open so you can spray the regulator to clean it of any mud/debris and I have not seen that.

Of course the best solution would be for Polaris to move if from that location to one less vulnerable. Someone said above that theirs is in front of the radiator. That sounds ideal to me. Wonder if they would update mine for free.

Just did a little part number cross reference and the 2016 rzr 900 regulator is part number 4014856 REGULATOR-3PH,50A,SERIES,HISPD while the 2015 is part number 4013978 REGULATOR-3PH,50A,SERIES,HISPD and the 2014 is part number 4015229
(replaces part #
4014029)
REG-3PH,50A,SERIES,HISPD,TCAP

Info from the RMATV OEM parts site

Maybe Polaris knows there is a problem and keeps trying different models. Hopefully the 2016 is a winner.
