I am moving from a 1000 General 4 with seat belts to a RZR Turbo S 4 that I want to upgrade to 5-point harnesses in all 4 seats.
Two-part question, first being what harnesses do you recommend. I like the style of the 50caliber ( 50 Caliber Racing 3" 5 point Racing Safety Harness Seat Belts anti-submarine sternum strap in colors ), but I have never used them.
The second part of the question, will the harnesses be effective for a 7-year-old (54" @ about 80lbs). There are times that we have 4 adults in the buggy, so it would surely make life simpler to have 4 adult harnesses. Obviously I'm more concerned about safety than convenience, I just do not have any experience with harness limitations. TIA

I have the same situation the kid is in the seat more than anyone but often an adult will ride. I have the tusk 4 point and they have enough adjustability to conform to either rider. I’d imagine most would be the same.

Thanks for the Info. I would imagine that a 5-point harness would be even better for him as well.

The latches on the .50 cal stuff supposedly rusts quite quickly.

I was going to buy the purple .50 cal harnesses until i read all the negative reviews on how quickly the stuff rusts.

Yeah, I won't be buying them either if that is the case. Thanks for the heads up

Honestly, most of the $100ish harness sets are very similar. The main difference is if they have Latch & Ling or Push Button buckles. The latch & Link is super reliable and require no real maintenance.
The key to a safe harness is proper mounting position based on the riders size. To set up the belts to the rider you need the seat to also fit, similar to a helmet...if your helmet is too big, the strap wont keep it on and you'll bang around inside of it. If you have a 4 ft kid, they wont fit properly in the same spot as a 6ft rider with the same belts.

If I still had little people, I'd get a stock seat and modify it for a kid, then run a separate set of belts. All could be clip in style and easily changed out for a full size rider. The key is the should belts need to hold you back in the seat, not pull down and preload your spine. The lap belt should hold you down just fine, play-car belts probably wont break until 4000lbs+ of force.
In a 5 point harness, the only function of the 5th belt is to pull against the shoulder harness and keep them tight. If you tighten your shoulders and your lap goes up in a 5pt, your crotch strap is too long. If you run 5pts with multiple riders or drivers and cant adjust the 5th belt, run multiple crotch straps in different lengths. red long, blue short ect.
If you don't have a hole in the seat for the crotch strap, don't try to fake it by running it over the front of the seat..it's worthless as it just pulls your lap belt away from your body.

Sorry for the long answer that doesn't solve your problem OP, but its some valuable and tested insight on harnesses.

This answer did give me some insight on how I need to set up the buggy. Is there a way to fabricate the stock seats for the the strap. I really don't want to go and buy 4 new seats!

The strap goes through the seat, then mounts to the chassis. Assuming you don't compromise the integrity of the seat, all you really need is a pass through hole.

I have some stock RZR/Can-Am and Yamaha seats in my shop for another R&D project, I'll see if I can come up with a DIY process for a seat mod for kids.

I have a Turbo S and the click six harness works awesome with it. Best harness if you want to still be able to move!

Dude! I tried to buy em. Dealer talked me out of em. I have a 4 seater. Not sure if it matters. Guess it had to do with how the belts mount in the covered area mid cage. Now I wanna try though.

Mine is a 2 seater but I believe the 4 seater has provisions for the same mounting. Basically the retractors go behind the seat the same place the shoulder straps go on any harness. The side belts go where the standard seat belts go on the side. The other 2 go below the seat in front. You can actually see that in the picture in my earlier post. Hope this helps. I think your dealer may not know what he is talking about.

After looking at the photo again, I do see how the lower front straps mount. I have never seen a 6-point in person, but it does look like possibly the best option for stock seats without trying to cut a pass-through. Thanks a million brother!

Hi-

I have a 2021 Turbo 4S and have the 3”x5 green harnesses and love them. I also have two boys 11 & 8. I purchased the booster pad from PRP to raise them up so they fit better/ safer in the seat and have no issues. As far as rust I have no issues, if your like me and you spent the money to have the best machine you just clean them and take care of them. There’s always more expensive ones. As you know nothing’s inexpensive on these machines. Hope you find what works best for you.
