Transfer case leaking

Question for all the mechanics........

My transfer case cover on my 08 std has started leaking. To repair it properly would require removal of transmission. I'm curious if I were to replace the fluid with a heavier weight oil, maybe the leak would slow up?
I know there are several who use a 75/90 gear lube in the transfer case, which is alot thicker than the reccomended lube.
whatcha think??

I've tried best I could to seal the leak. Drained the box, cleaned, smeared some permatex into the joint where I could, but it still drips a little. I have a new tranny/transfer case. I suppose when I pull the motor for Tim to rebuild, I'll fix it then and sell it. Just hoping I could put it off for the summer.

Thanks, Cliff
I had read that, sounds like it would be easier just to pull the engine!
I was hoping to find some miracle sealer, or to hear some response from anyone who may have tried using a different oil. Can't figure why some are using a heavy lubricant in the transfer case.
Good hearin from ya!

in my case, the cover started leaking after being impacted snagging a rock. It is mounted low in the frame, and little protection is offered, even with a good skid plate. After I snagged the rock, I found that the cover seal had been broken. I tried tightening the cover bolts, and that helped, but it still dripped. Only way to fix it correctly was to remove cover and reseal. I don't know what Polaris uses for a case sealant, but I'm sure you could find an adequate sealer locally. Permatex offers several products that would work fine. Biggest problem for me, was that the transmission had to be removed in order to properly reseal the transfer case cover.
