Eastern slopes of the Rockies. You go from rock slide trail to mud hole to hard pack on and off all day. The outback max is the best tire I've used so far but it's heavy. I'm thinking the Blackwater Evo might be a option. Those crawlers and AT type tires would be useless.
I have to agree on the STI Outback max tires.

I have riden from Mclean Creek to the Edson areas and the changes from rocky hills to deep mud and muskeg in a distance of 1/2 a mile pts the tires to the test.

Having this info at the start probably would have given you some better suggestions. It sounds like an open chevron tire is the only one that going to work well enough for you in the thick/deep mud. Like you said those open chevron's are going to be heavy and wear fast.

I looked at the blackwater evo, It would be hard pressed to make it though any mud hole that the xg crawler couldn't make it through. I haven't owned the blackwater evo's but from looking at the roundness of the tire and the open tread I would say it's going to wear similar to a big horn unless its a really hard compound, which will in turn compromise its grip on rock and hard pack.

It will be interesting to see which tire you choose and how well it works for you.

I might be stuck with something similar to a the outback max. The CRYPTID tire is 5lbs lighter. That must make some bit of difference. More wheel spin and speed is desired.

I was hoping to sell the outback max I have but no such luck yet.

I run the black waters . Here in Kentucky we also have a terrain that goes from both ends of the spectrum extremely fast. These tires are 8 ply and I have found that for all types of terrain that you have mentioned these tires are great. They are not heavy which gives you wheel spin with no problem.these tires wear well with average of 2-2500 miles per set. These tires will dig to China . I wasn't sure these tires would fit the bill when I purchased but after a few trial runs I was very impressed . I will run these tires until they quit making them. Probably not great in the dunes but I'd feel confident they would do as good as a bh in the sand.

I really like how the Pro-Armor XG Crawlers work in harsh terrain. I ride mostly in the Mojave desert where the terrain can be very rocky or it can be sandy or it can be just plain harsh and rugged. The XG crawlers are very tough and very durable but they also handle very well and are predictable. They will take a great deal of abuse and they hook up very well..

Definitely give them a good look before you make a final decision...

Yes.. 30" fit well but I do have them off-set wheels so they are an" wider on each side

What wheels are you running?

I have had Blackwater Evo's on my XP1k. For the past 2100 miles. The stock BH's showed about the same amount of wear at 800 mi that I currently have. I rode in the mix terrain of the Colorado Rockies and now in Southern Utah's rocky, hardpack trails with a desert mix. Surprisingly enough they also do fairly well rock crawling if you air them down to about 8psi. Just my personal experience.
