throttle position sensor

I am having trouble with the TPS on my 2009 RZR, have all the print outs on settings for the Voltage but I :question:am worried that the sensor is toast. On the 2009 is there a idle voltage adjustment screw on the throttle body and if there is where is it. I get a code 22 with a check engine message on the instrument panel. apparently the code is saying there is a short or the circuit is open. I checked the voltage on the sensor and get .724 with the key on and with the throttle wide open 3.449.

I just rechecked mine a couple weeks ago and got the same .724. It wouldn't be the first time one caused a problem. I would lean more toward a bad wire or connection on the TPS. Its sending a signal to your meter when testing so its got to be an anomoly with the wiring coming from it.

That adjustment screw is on the opposite side of the tps, you may want to read your manual about how to adjust before you start playing with that. Also, its easier to adjust if you use a dremmel and put a groove in the head of the adjustment screw do you can play with it while its running.

Also I bought my '09 rzr last year and the first thing I had to do was replace the tps.

I had to go look at something on mine. Sorry for the confusion. I understood that the TPS was sending a correct voltage signal to the point in the wiring where he tested it. Would that not indicate that the voltage, although not what Polaris would call perfect (.730) it is within the acceptable range in the manual. For some reason the signal isn't getting to the ECM according to the error codes.
Where did you connect to the wiring to check the voltage? Is it the same after the connector closest to the TPS?
Just going through possibilities here.

well I just checked it again and I am getting .730 with the throttle closed and 4.555 with the throttle wide open. Still getting the code 22 which is reading (open or short circuit to ground) or (short circuit to battery. can't reallly tell what is going on as there is 4.5 volts coming to the connector to the sensor. hate to buy a new TPS and have it do the same thing so I would like to make sure I have covered all the bases

Also you may get a correct reading when throttle is not moving, and may be irratic when you are accelerating/decelerating, as was the case with mine.causing it to bog, spit, and sputter, stall when hot.

I never had that problem. I was having problems with the gas pedal, but don't know if it was because I was not used to using a pedal other than the thumb control. it seemed like it was jerky although I was running on some pretty rough roads, also it used way more gas than my brothers and we did all the same miles

Re: Re: throttle position sensor

The only way to set my new TPS sensor correctly was to reset the idle adjust screw, exactly how it tells you to in the 2009 rzr owners manual.
