When re assembling don't rotate the engine with the cam chain on the cam gears without the cam chain tensioner installed. I thought I could at least roll it by hand but the chain jumped timing a couple of times on me.
We think the valves aren't seating correctly from dirt in the motor. It's smoking like it's burning oil but has never been sank. Didn't smoke til Alba exhaust programmer and Uni in box kit was installed and we forgot to oil the filters from excitement I reackon so assuming dirt got thru them??
If you had un-oiled uni's in there, your probably gonna need a top end. A leak down test would be a good check before tearing it down, but after reading your last post, sounds like you'll probably need rings, a light hone on the cylinder or possible replacement.
It may look good but that doesn't mean it's sealing well. If it were me, I'd be doing a light hone on that cylinder and putting a new set if rings in it. Would probably lap the valves while the head is off too, but that's me.
Walls don't look good. They should not be shinny. That means the rings are probably worn and not sealing well. Time for a light hone and new rings. Noticed the K&N oil filter. Hope the oil filter is better than the "gravel strainer" air filter!
If you enjoy doing this keep running the Uni. Don't care what people or Uni says, Uni lets stuff through even when oiled. Tested them myself with different sticky oils. Always got dirt past. Polaris filters are the only filter I found that stops it all.
My cylinders looked great also but my rings measured out horrible. I did a hone, new rings and completely rebuilt the head, I actually just fired it up for the first time 2 days ago.
Oh and I also installed the UMP intake so I don't have to do this again.
My factory intake sucked in dirt so I switched to the UNI pod filter kit with outerwears and still sucked dirt through those. The 900 finally got enough dirt and the valves seats were eaten away.
