I know this topic has been beat to death and I am the rzr forum.
I am in love with the xp 900. I just sold my rhino. I want the xp 900
But there is no space to put my 140pd mastiff in the back.
Is there anyone that has put some kind of carrier in the back?
I don't want the rzr4 cause it doesn't suit what I do most of the time.
But I dont really want the commander.
Any pictures or suggestions would be great!
Thanks
Sean

I am sure if you took the XP to a local fab shop and described what you wanted exactly they could fab something up for. They could probably make one that is easily removable as well. That would also help with heat issues. If you are gun hoe about the XP buying a Commander you will be disappointed.

If you really loved your Mastiff like I love my mastiff you would let her or him ride in the shotgun seat and put the wife in the back to soak up the heat lol

I used the material that is used for "under the hood" (forget the proper term) heat deflection. I cut out a piece for under the bed and a piece on top of the bed. It really helped keeping the heat to a minimum for my dog. I did not realize, in the beginning, how hot that bed gets until I was coaxing my dog to jump back in and put my hand on the bed. Holy chit it was hot. I felt like a dog abuser. You definitely need to add something to deflect the heat if you want your dog to ride in the bed.

Sean, There's a number of posts you can research where people have fab'ed up various contraptions for their beasts. Maybe a simple "dog rzr" search would bring up a few posts.

You could have something made that connects back to the rear hitch mount and sit above the heat of the rear tray, with some low walls and carpet.

Hey, I got this.

You have plenty of room for your dog, the problem you have is first, it is tough for them to load up, and second the heat.

I have a really big Drahthaar that does not weigh as much as your dog, but has nearly the same frame, that loves to ride there. He's about 110 and 32cm tall at the shoulder, and we have had him and his little buddy German Wirehair Pointer that goes about 60# back there at the same time.

Both dogs are young, and while they both load well, we need to install a small step off the rear brush guard for them to hit on the way up and down.

As for the heat, I fashioned a piece of memory foam to fit the bed, it is 4" thick and protects both boys from the heat. Put a cloth or canvas cover on it and you are ready to ride. We run a short leash down from my accessory rack to ensure they do not have the head way to bail out after a squirrel or deer, etc.

I did notice the back bed will hold an extra large sky kennel, even though it looks too small at first glance, so if you can load your horse sized dog in that, and have a fork lift handy to place it in the back of your XP....

Great picture. I used to hunt Grouse with a friend's wirehair around Lake Tahoe a few years ago. That looks like chucker country to me. Hate those damn Chucker... :rofl3:

Running the dogs in an RZR is nice for hunting, but how can you tear around and put the dog in potential harm? I generally drive in a manner that would not be appropriate for a dog :)

Sorry for multiple posts,

Started out with about 8 sq ft of condenser wrap at the local home supply, cost me a buck a sq ft, hope you can do a lot better..

Note the pool noodle for dog head bump protection..

Ok, this is nothing more than a polyester dog bed pad available at your local supply store for about twenty bucks, give me morning wood and tell me you can get the same thing for a lot less. 42 X 27 and is big enough to go up the sides of the bed.

Deal is, you wet the hell out of the condenser wrap underneath, it holds a lot, and it evaporates up through the polyester dog bed and he is a cool customer on a hot tin bed...

This dog weighs well over 110, and is tall.

He and his little buddy Axel the wirehair have both comfortably rode the rzr over rough trails, your big boy will fit just fine.

A doggy that size why not just get a trailer,or a rzr170 and teach him how to drive! lol
If you want him to ride along then you will have to build something custom I'm sure, just remember the heat issue and height (for loading and unloading). Maybe cut the bottom out of the right sized dog carrier or kennel and fashion some sort of tie downs to hold it in place,You may want to get some sort of doggy ramp that can be attached to the bed while riding? The possibilities are endless with either machine. Think it,Do it!

Sounds like you need a ranger xp 800.

My father has an english mastiff and he is too big now to fit on the bench seat that is in his ranger so now he gets in the box. There is no heat issues either since the engine is under the seat in a ranger.

I know, I know... Not what your looking for... Well it was the best suggestion I had. LOL

Thanks for the replies.
I sold the wife on the bullmastiff fitting in the back, due to the pictures.
haha
NOW, her concern is the 2 bucket seats. I dont want the rzr4.
Does anyone have any pictures of a bench seat in a rzr with a carseat or a small child sitting in the middle?
Thanks
Sean
