got stuck in a hole this afternoon, guess my new tires and lift just didnt quite cut it on this one, shut the bike off as soon it stopped. got it pulled out checked the air box, pulled the plugs out everything check out okay, started it up and it won't idle, it runs fine and everything work fine, just won't stay running at idle.. and ideas??

would that make it shut off at idle> but still run fine?

#5 ·
would there be anything i would have to replace to know if its the problem> or just pull the sensor out and clean them and the connections and put them back it?

#7 ·
awesome i'll give that shot tomorrow, thanks

check your muffler the spark arrestor may be plugged with mud which does't alow it to breath. happened to mine and it would start but wouldn't run long.
have to pull it out and clean it

it seems to run fine, drove it home about 12 miles, but couldn't let my foot off the throttle as soon as it dropped to idle it would shut off. . no codes are in it. . hopefully whatever it is will dry out over night and i won't have to piss with it, i will be looking to do some "water proofing" after that tho, hole didn't look that deep or big, but it was real sloppy at the bottom, prob a good 2 ft of nothing but sloppy mud, i had myself stuck in it tryin to hook up the tow strap. .

#1 Don't shut the engine off whenever your exhaust is under water. The pressure generated by the engine is enough to push water out and not let it flow back into the engine.
#2 Definitely check the spark arrested. I have been in a few holes (1-2) and noticed that the idle has been crap. When I looked at the exhaust, mud had caked in that screen and very little exhaust was able to escape. This effected my top end and WOT more than idle. I grabbed a hose and sprayed the screen while a friend was giving the engine some gas and it washed out.

Hope everything works out and you might want to run some of those breather tubes up at least to your intakes before diving into more holes :D

You may want a more aggressive tire for holes like that too...just a thought lol

just bought the bighorns. . figured they would be good enough haha, and holes like that i dont normally go in

within a week all the tubes will be at my roof haha . . this morning i went to start it to see what happened overnight, same thing but now i am getting 4 codes out of it. .

#22 TPS open or short to ground
#42 engine temp sensor short to ground
#54 engine temp lamp short circuit to ground
#41 intake air temp sensor short circuit to ground

now from what little electronic skill i have, it sounds the wire harness all goes off one main ground? is this correct or should i be looking for something else?

On my 08, there are several grounds going to one point on the frame. I would remove, clean off, and replace to see if that helps. I haven't had that problem yet, which surprises me considering mine likes to get submerged in mud...:ride:

Ill have to try that . . I hate electrical it may be going to a dealer

Martin marine sales in ebensburg area . . What kinda price range was it to have it adjusted and is something that has to be takin back to dealer to do??

:icon_thumleft: yeah me too, thats why i bought i new one, so if it was ever in/under water it would be my fault and i would know about, bad thing about that one was i usually don't go in anything unless i know for sure its not to high and i wont get stuck, we were on an old poker run trail and it split three ways, i took the one that looked the best, but obviously it wasnt. .

anyway, good and bad news, just spend about 6 hrs messing around with it pulling sensors and draining gas talk, spark plugs, changing all fluids, and pretty much cleaning anything that could be cleaned. . started it up idles perfect and runs better than before, no idea what was wrong thinking it was one of the sensors i pulled and cleaned but thanks for all the info really helped out and gave me a place to start looking :pint:

Mine done the same thing in TN with no mudd involved. It ended up being the TPS went BAD, but it would still fun fine until you start letting of the Gas Pedal. So maybe you can check that out to. I still had a Warranty and they put me a new one on. So good luck!!!!

Glad you got it sorted out. I went to deep also. Had to change all the fluids, pull plugs, etc..She ran just fine afterward..just got to know when to shut her down to prevent hydro locking, then get those plugs pulled..

You sure there is mud under all that water?

#31 ·
the hottie in the 3rd pic is mine sorry :ride:

and the oars would be a nice touch, hopefully i wont ever need to use them haha

and yes it was nothing but mud under the water, only about 1ft water rest was mud. .

bike is still running great, and i always ordered a snorkel for it as well, so next time if its deeping than what im expecting, i know ill be covered from sucking water in the intake, just a little peice of mind

#32 ·
We may have covered this, but don't forget to do the little breather tubes as well...just because your intake isn't sucking in water, doesn't mean your diff's aren't :)

how many vent lines should i look for? i know the snorkel i ordered comes with extra vent line to raise them, just not sure how many there are
