My 900 xp has been binding starting. Took the side cover off and tightened the idler gear and everything else looked good. Put it together and it still binds. So I ordered a new starter and put it on now the starter just spins won't turn over the engine? What did I do wrong? Any help would be appreciated

So it turns out the starter was for a 2013 turns the wrong direction because they have one less gear . Sent it back got the right one . Installed and it's still binding (kicking back).ordered a new battery old ones questionable. Old starter was full of oil so it need one .will try new battery when I get it hopping it will fix it but not real confident that it will.bike runs great after it starts so not thinking it's timing . Any help would be appreciated I'm running out of ideas .

The bolt the idler gear rides on is likely bent. I'm replacing one right now for the exact same issue. When you removed the gear behind the flywheel was it difficult to get the idler gear and the larger gear to seat back in place?

When I tightened the idler gear I replaced the post forgot to say that .the idler gear showed some wear didn't think it would be an issue . But will pull cover off and check all the gears closer . The bike runs well when it starts so not thinking there is anything wrong with engine . Just worried when it kicks back one of these times it may break the post off and crack case . Thanks for the info will keep u posted when I get a chance to look at it again .
