i think this is my first post - so take it easy

i have a tacoma 4x4 double cab, and am looking into a rzr xp4 900. my question is "what is the SMALLEST toy hauler anyone is using that is big enough for the xp4900?"

i have read the thread with the mega toy haulers for these machines, but am hoping there is a 18 or 19 footer out there that will work. i don't mind doing a roof mod, as i probably will anyway. pictures of them squeezed in there would be awesome!

thanks

Yeah anything you'll be able to fit a RZR XP4 in will be way too much for a Tacoma to tow, sorry to say it

I know when we had our F150 5.4 and our 17' TH fully loaded we were struggling. I can't imagine what it would be like with a V6

Was your TH made of concrete??? I find that hard to believe. my 2007 5.4 pulled my 11,000 lb 36' camper with no problem.

I would tend to agree that any enclosed trailer that will hold the XP4 will likely be pushing the capacity of the Tacoma. That said, it might be possible if you get a really lightweight unit. You just don't want to be in a hurry!

My experience has been that I don't have trouble keeping up with "most" traffic in my Tacoma pulling a 14' open trailer (700 lbs) with a standard rzr (1200lbs) plus a touring (800lbs) on the trailer, PLUS a Hawkeye (600lbs) in the bed, along with the usual (daytrip) gear and three people. Stay out of O/D, and let your V-8 friends lead the way. Kinda does make me wish I'd have gone with a larger truck. Next time. :)

Sorry your SOL.. You need a bigger truck. Like others said just a plain jane cargo trailer big enough for an XP will be a Load for your truck, Much less any kind of toy hauler. You will need a min of a 7x12 cargo for your XP and really a 8x16 would be better. Your v6 is not going to like pulling an 8x16 trailer with a 1400Lb machine in it. With camping comes camping gear. You at the very least need a decent 1/2 ton for even an ultra light toy hauler. Everyone is telling you that cause its true. Your truck has what about a 4k towing? Just a flat bed with the XP4 is like 3k

I'm not sure if it will fit, but check out Jumping Jack trailers out of Utah. I would love to have one, but we are a family of five! it just won't work for all of us.

Check out the wolf pack line. They have some really short toy haulers that might work. The biggest issue you'll have is wind resistance. I have a 27 ft Wolf Pack and it weighs 5800 empty but head winds really make you long for more power on mine before I got the little V6

i guess i should have let it all out at the beginning. i have a 3/4 ton chevy too! and a 1/2 ton for that matter. but what i really want is something to work with everything. i want the rzr to fit into the toyhauler if need be. i want the tacoma to pull said toy hauler if need be (maybe with only 2 kids quads down the block). and i want someone else to drive if need be :).

we are a family that surely plays together. sometimes we just go to the dry lakebead with the kids quads, and a toyhauler would be nice for restrooms and shade. if we go to supercross, its fun to have a camper to tailgate in and drag out the pit bikes. i had a 18 footer and sold it for a motorhome - which sucked - so looking to go back to a small toybox. but it must fit my future xp4900!

so, anyone out there hauling an xp4900 in a tiny toy hauler?

If you have a half ton and a 3/4 why on earth would you try to pull a toy hauler with a v6 tocoma? Again your pretty much sol. That truck is going to have a load with just a flatbed plus the XP. ANY toy hauler is going to be way over your tow rating.

I built a red neck hauler out of a cargo trailer that was only 6x14. It was still 5k loaded with only a 2 Seater 800

I love it when there is a few families trying to get together for a holiday weekend and for some odd reason they have toys (or maybe they rented them or are borrowing them) but only one person in this group of families has a truck and it's always a little half ton at best. So what you end up with is a half ton with 9 quads stacked in the back pulling a trailer with another 12 bikes and quads on it. The truck is going down the road riding on bumpstops with 4 or 5 cars behind it all stuffed to the gills as well so these few families can go out for the weekend.

Am I the only one who sees this on a regular basis LOL?

dude just bite a couple bullets and get the correct truck to pull no issues then you can buy whatever trailer you want , i use a 06 f350 dually with a 14" lift and pull a nitrous toy hauler it barely fits our rzr and all the other toys my wife has to tow rhino quads and dirt bikes and that twice the fuel and tires and trucks etc

It's such a slippery slope, I did the same thing wanted something to haul 12 ft trailer and quads...SUV worked great not even a year later needed a bigger trailer so went to 16ft car hauler and f250 diesel with lift, still ok. Then decided on a hauler so had to get something that would tow good without lift so new 6.7 diesel f250 and 30 ft toy hauler. Save your self some headaches you will always wish u bought bigger so just upgrade and you will be happier in long run.

Just sold my raptor toy hauler and new dodge dually and bought a tacoma and love it. We found that our friends could rent a cabin a pull their rides down on a small trailer cheaper than we could pull the hauler. I looked at some enclosed trailers called legend aluminum trailers. A 19 ft v nose with a bathroom weighed about 2500 pounds. I wouldn't hesitate to pull that setup with my tacoma. We went on a trip a couple weeks ago and my buddy with the same xp4 and trailer I was pulling and I not only could keep up in the hills but could pull away from his chevy 1500 with a 5.3 v8! I was impressed with my little wimpy truck!
heres a pic. It was loaded with all our camping gear. Gonna put air bags and a prodigy brake controller on it and it'll be fine!
this is what I just sold. Yeah I'm saving money! Lol

See though that top picture is what I'm talking about. That truck is squatted A ton with just camping gear and a flatbed. Thats why I say a toy hauler is a no go. He would still have the gear the XP4 plus a much heavier trailer. Pulling the weight is not always the problem either. With an enclosed or toy hauler your add a ton of wind resistance along with the weight. You also have other things to consider like your Axle rating and stopping the rig. I've got nothing against Toyotas. Infact we have a 5.7 Tundra that we use to pull our camper with until I bought my Duramax. The 5.7 Could easily pull its rated weight plus more. Course it also had to have airbags. Problem is you overload the rear axle. With my Tundra there is no way to pull even its rated weight with out overloading the rear axle.

I'm a little surprised your Tacoma would out run a 5.3 v8 with the same load if you both were flooring it. But at the same time my neighbor has a 1500 5.3 thats a few years old and we both had the same 6x14 cargos. He said it was a huge load on his truck. With my tundra it wasn't anything. I just figured it was the way his was geared or something. Even though I love my Duramax I have to admit I've heard a bunch of complaints from others on towing with a chevy 1/2. Atleast the ones from a few years ago. I don't know anyone with a brand new 1/2 ton that tows much.

Pushrod engine vs. an overhead cam engine is a big difference....just like the difference between the 800 and the xp 900 engines. It's more than just displacement.

Hey Chris,

Good luck on finding a really light wt toy hauler. I have a 2010 Tacoma V6 Crew Cab and also "toyed" with the idea of a toy hauler for my 11 Rzr 800S. Could not find one that was light enough to make me "comfortable" for the occasional weekend excursion. BTW, for those who don't know, the tow rating for the 2005 or newer V6 Tacoma with the tow package is 6500 lbs.

Mine easily tows an open 6x12 utility trailer loaded with the Rzr and equipment plus the bed full of gear through mountains and on the Interstates at 70 to 75 with no problem. This suits us just fine.

Let us know what you find and good luck on your search!!

Cheers,
