I took mine off on both sides before I ever got in the thing.

 

Most everyone takes it off when they get doors, i believe it is just a butt catcher, so you dont slide off the seat in a curve. I removed mine when i got doors, hope this helps.

Mine has been off since getting an extra wide aftermarket seat for my big butt.

 

I would like a way to make that Sidebar be able to flip up and flip back down after I transfer. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

 

I looked at doing that but it was easier to just replace the 2 bolts in each with pins and clips. I leave the bar off when I am around the house with it.
