Shifter stiff

So, having seen all the posts and videos blaming stiff shifting on clutch alignment, I thought I'd get mine sorted today and enjoy the benefits of not having to wrestle though the gears like a thirty year old junk yard Monte Carlo with missing T-tops and salt water flood damage.

I spent a couple hours with my machine this afternoon, adding shims, subtracting shims, and at the end of the day coming to the conclusion that my clutch alignment was pretty much dead nuts before I began dicking with it.

Any thoughts on what I might try next, or is this just another case of it's the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

New machine with no mods, properly broken in with 200 miles on the clock.

Will it break in, or would I be kidding myself with that?

Shifts fine with the engine off. lol

Thanks in advance!

Does your secondary clutch spin at idle?
It will if your clutch alignment is off. If it is not spinning, then clutch alignment is not your shifting problem.

But it is a very common issue with new ProXP’s.

As mentioned in the OP, the alignment has been checked.
The secondary does not spin at idle.

I was expecting alignment to be the problem. So much so, I shimmed in both directions until the secondary was spinning, finally ending back with the three shims the machine came with. No spin, with pics visually verifying the belt to be centered.

Clutch alignment (secondary spacing) is belt alignment and totally different than a motor to to trans alignment, which should be checked.
You could be to far out causing belt to be tighter, thus giving a person fit's when motors is running.

Do your float the secondary?

Maybe we're getting somewhere here.

I'm decent with a bag of tools, but brand new to these machines. Could you explain the what "float the secondary" means?
I spent enough time in there yesterday, I may be able to answer the question immediately.

TIA.

Floating refers to adding shims/washers behind the secondary mounting bolt but in front of the clutch it self, thus allowing the the secondary to align it's self with the belt when pulled into alignment from the primary when engaged. There is a tolerance ( specification ) for floating in the shop manual...
I don't have it off the top of my head right now

My 2022 does that same thing doesn't matter if it is running or not. My clutch aliment is dead on not that it would matter if it wasn't running but I checked. I checked the cable and put on a new shifter no change. After my next ride I am thinking about taking it in and having it looked at before the 6 month warranty runs out. At this point I believe there is a problem in the transmission, I have a friend that has a 2021 that shifts like butter. I can live with it but I shouldn't have to on a $27k machine.

Same here I'm at 1300 miles and even after multiple clutch configurations and a full clutch rebuild I'm hit and miss on how it wants to shift, sometimes smooth sometimes incredibly difficult, alignment has been checked and shimmed multiple times.
Same, and my alignment is dead nuts..

I have a 2019 sportsman 570. And I've already found that when the rpm are at 1300. It changes perfect but regret it goes up to 1600 and don't come in at all I need to turn off and put speed in and turn on again. What's the problem? I've adjusted the wire. But the lowest it gives me. It's already 1550rpm
