What is the function of the electric fan? Does it do any more than blow dust particles out the back of the rig? If I don't run it will dust fill up and plug the vortexes. I have a switch on mine so I can shut it off while leaving the switch on acc so that the map stays on. I tend to forget to turn it back on. I've had heavy equipment with vortex separators that don't have any electric blower fans so I'm skeptical of it's necessity.

If you are bothered about the noise from the fan, connect it to the fuel pump, that way it is only running whilst the engine is running, that way you can't forget to turn it on.

Vortex have a very limited air flow where they work best. The fan is to keep a steady volume of air so the vortex works at efficiency. Early models of S&B did not have a fan and did a very pour job. The reason heavy equipment do not need fans is because of the high and steady flow of air. Do not try and compare the two. Does not work. Heavy equipment has a vortex designed to match the engine air flow. Our class of machines has way to may variables in air flow amounts for one unit to take care of a turbo and non turbo, for example. Hence the fan keeps the air flow to make the vortex work regardless of machine it is on. If you do not leave the fan run all the time, you might as well take the unit off and throw it away. Will do the same amount of good.

I used the one from the YXZ 1000, you can use any of them just need to make up your own plumbing and make sure that the roll cage fixing brackets are the correct size.

This is mine after 2000 Kms never cleaned it. You get your puchase cost of the S&B back by not having to buy air filters, also so much more engine life. We hope :)(y)
