Hi Doug ,how many rpm's is it turning at idle ?

 

idling at 1450 rpm

 

It should be around 1200 rpm's if its to high the secondary clutch will stay ingaged and you woint be able to get in gear .check your cable if its ok you can turn the idle down on the back of your throttle body with a allen wrench .

 

Stock clutch engagement is around 1500+/-. Your idle is to high. Could be a few things, but check the throttle cable first. wiggle it around, and see if idle changes.

ok, I got the idle set down to 1230 rpm. I shifted it into reverse and thats as far as it would go. I had to shut it off to move it to park or drive.

 

sounds like either a bearing in the clutch or a spacer on your secondary ,have you changed the weights in your clutch ?

 

no i have not changed anything but the belt. just picked up the rzr and dont know much about them yet. Looks like i will be learning very soon. are any special tools required to remove the clutch? it looked very similar to a snow mobile clutch and i have removed a few of that style in the past. Not sure what you mean about the weights? I did see some scoring on the sides of the housing where the two halves move.

 

Is your belt the right one?

Ya the primary is probably engaging at idle when it shouldn't be. That causes the secondary to spin and makes your tranny grind when shifting...
The most common cause is a bad bearing in the primary, or the bearing is just packed with belt dust. It could also be a worn out primary spring.

I checked out the video and see the difference already. your secondary ( driven pulley ) stops completely and doesnt jump and jerk around like its trying to move the trans. Mine continues to attemp to move the trans? looks like i will have to remove the primary clutch and see what is wrong. can you recommend a kit to install ? I will be plowing snow with the rzr in the winter and trail riding in the summer. most of the trails i ride on have some pretty good sized water and mud holes.

primary bearing is a dealer item dirty dawg clutch is a good kit....

 

When mine was worn out I pulled the primary and took it to my local dealer. They took it apart and put a new bearing on. Mine also needed new buttons.

If you take the belt off, you should be able to turn the bearing on the primary that the belt sits on. On a RZR it should turn both ways freely. On a 2009 RZR-S they used a one way bearing that only turns one way. They stopped using the one way POS.

 

Called some of my buddies to see if we could cancel windrock and come to Glamis over the holidays (highs in tn 45 ca 70)Didn't work well for me.... would really help me with my decisions if I could see your bikes in action!!!

 

opened up the clutch housing yesterday and found the bearing in the center was hanging up. I blew it all out and sprayed some penetrating oil on the bearing and blew it back off again. I worked the bearing back and forth until it floated freely both ways. aparently it must be sticking again or needs replaced

 

don't use oil or grease on the clutch.. it attracts dust and makes everything gum up... or it will make the belt slip..
use brake cleaner.

 

10-4 I will take it apart again and spray it up with brake cleaner.

 

I'm glad I found this thread! mine is doing the same thing.... BUT my primary/secondary doesnt seem to be trying to engage... or maybe it is? I am going to pick the bike up from the dealership Friday. I took it to them to have them work on the bike(under an extended warranty) and they havent touched the bike in 2 months.. I'm furious about it.

I'm going to get it and pull it all apart and mess with it myself.

along w/ the tranny binding, the front diff won't engage, the speedo quit working(which that happened a while back) and the starter quit(3rd time in 6 months)... IM NOT HAPPY
