The CVT running:

Changing the belt:

I added a second video (short version) that shows how to change the belt with and without the "extension trick":

2014 RZR-1000-XP:

More info on how the CVT works from Team Industries:

Well the cover has a ridge that sits in a groove on the back half, where the gasket seals the two halves.
I only leave two bolts out. The one above the coolant lines (that get really hot) and the one above the drive shaft. They aren't too hard to reach, but I don't need them.
I also use a modifed cover that is vented in an effort to keep the clutch as cool as possible. I have put my hand over the holes with the clutch running and felt air coming out, not going in. I have also never found any sand or dirt inside the clutch, even with all these holes...

Very nice. Thank you. I didn't realize that it was so easy to change the belt.

A question has come up as to how to pry open the secondary using the socket wrench extension. You push the extension towards the back of the RZR against the roller to pry open the sheaves of the secondary.

Here is a picture that BigMike58 took showing us how it works:

If you are putting together a tool kit for your RZR you might want to also include some needle nose pliers and a good knife. Sometimes if you break a belt they shred and the cords in the belt get tangled up in the clutch. If you are lucky you will hear some chunks come off the outside and hit the cover and be able to turn the engine off before they shred. Also remember to take a flashlight with you on night rides so you can work on it in the dark... Belts can last thousands of miles, but I have had them break in less than 500 too.

The Rapid Reaction cost less to manufacture, there are less parts. But it is not as easy to change/tune. You can buy the Team Roller from Polaris or several clutch vendors. If you have a stock machine then leave it the way it is.

If you have the Rapid Reaction secondary you can get slack in the belt by pulling up on the belt hard. This will force open the sheaves of the secondary (like using the extension trick), it is just harder to do.

How do you reinstall the new belt with the rapid reaction driven clutch?

I have a 2010 RZR-S with the rapid reaction driven clutch removing the belt was easy enough but installing is a different story have not figured a way to spread the driven yet, wanted to ask here first before going caveman, did NOT find any instruction in the owners manual or the factory service manual.

Thanks.

That was an EXTREMELY helpful video (and pic) for me. I have always had a sort of timid attitude towards trying to change a belt myself, but after seeing that I am quite confident that i can do it. Thank you very much!!!

Is a NEW belt thats not been broken in yet that easy to put on, or do you need to do some stretching first? That looked like it went on very easy. I have read some threads on here stating how difficult it was....

The stock belt (like the one I used in the video) is pretty easy to put on. The EPI severe duty belt that I run is a little shorter so it is harder to put on.
The most important thing to do with a new belt is to wash it with hot soapy water before putting it on, or storing it in your RZR as a spare. I was surprised how much black powder and shavings came off the belt the first time I washed one.

The EPI belt is a little narrower than the stock belt, so they send a washer to install in the primary. I have run it with and without the washer and didn't notice much difference. I quit using the washer. You can buy the same belt without the washer for $20 less too. It is an expensive washer... LOL

With a new belt you might hit the rev limiter once in a while until the belt is broken in. If it continues take a look at BlackBart's clutching threads and you can learn about clutch kits and tuning your clutch to match your mods and riding style.

Here is the white EPI washer installed on the center bolt of the primary:

I was the "other" guy that Cliff was referring to in regards to seeing "others" rubber gasket getting chewed up in the clutches....thanks for help that day Cliff! And actually Cliff, I didn't realize I still had that gasket, I thought we had tossed it in the garbage can at the third beach parking lot. I bought a new one a couple weeks later, then found the bad one in my rubbermaid box. The only thing wrong with it was one straight slice through it, so I glued it back together and saved the new one for later!
