Yea it's kind of annoying haveing the rear end locked all the time.. I just got my RZR 800S two days ago, and I love it. Put 70 miles on it today checking fields. I haven't seen where mine has tore up the yard any.

 

If you are looking to work on the farm and ride both, i would recommend going with the ranger..I rode with a guy last weekend that has a ranger and that thing is nice. He had the same tires and wheels i have (28in zillas) and went every where I went other than deep water because his isnt snorkled. The ranger seems to have more room in it also and has the dump bed..I dont know anything about the turf mode.

I have the RZR S and I love it. I dont work with mine I just pleasure ride with it. I LOVE my RZR and wouldnt trade it for anything. I havent had any transmission problems yet but my machine is fairly new. I have friends who have had them for a while and have had no problems with the transmissions. As far as tearing up the yard, IMO that depends all on what kind of tires you put on. The tires that I have tear up some but no too bad as long as I take it easy.

Utimately, If I had a farm and used my to work with frequently I would have bought the Ranger. Both machines to me are great machines.

 

I'd planned on a Ranger but couldn't use it on 50" trails. I thought about the Sportsman Touring but felt like the safety aspect of the RZR was well worth the difference. As far as payload around the farm, I'll probably pick up a small trailer from, say, Tractor Supply. I think if i were in your shoes i'd quit looking at a rzr. I had a ranger before and ride with two people that have them now. They aren't as sporty or comfortable which might be a matter of opinion, but that's it. Other than that they are pretty awesome for trail riding and utility. The rzr S that i have is slightly better off road due to the wheel travel, but the ranger was wayyyyyyyy better for utility and work. the engines are almost identical (few hp and mph off).

 

I have both . Thee Ranger will turn tighter and not tear up the sod. Ranger has higher load and trailering capabilities and is more like climbing in a truck. The RZR is half the utility rig and twice the sporty rig.RZR will put a bigger smile on your face if you like riding faster.

 

I have owned a Ranger and now own a RZR4. While I don't live on a farm or ranch now I grew up on a farm.

For utility work and general fun trail riding the Ranger is great. It is easier in and out than the RZR in my opinion. Neither one of my vehicles was equipped with power steering and I feel the Ranger was easier to turn especially at slow speeds.

I dearly love my RZR4 for the riding I do and would only give it up for an XP4, but as others have said your needs may be better meant with the Ranger.

They are both excellent vehicles in my opinion.

We have both a Ranger XP and two RZR 800s. While different and unique, they're both fun to ride on the trails. We can carry a lot more equipment in the Ranger and it's much easier to get in and out of. It's really nice to have the choice of which to use.

 

Thanks everyone for your input have a lot to think about . Im going to head to the dealer tomorrow to try and get the feel for each one and run the positives and negatives . I do have Great deal on a used 800 rzr , but I'm not the kind to just jump on any kind of deal with out doing the research of all my options.

I would just try to figure out a percentage on how much riding farm land vs trails. If it is 50-50 this won't help but if your going to ride mostly on the farm get the ranger. Mostly trails and just check fence and plow snow rzr.
