So...... I know this may not be the forum to ask this question but just wanted to see if anyone on this forum has gone from a can am commander to a rzr s or the other way? I currently have a 2012 rzr s le. With a ssu strereo hid lights custom built aluminum cab with auto windshield, and pro armor doors. 26xx miles.

Been wanting to upgrade. Thought about the 900 xp and building it the same as my s and keep most of my accessories but, then I thought about a can am commander. Found a 1000 xt 300 miles 2013 for a good price. I am highly thinking of getting the commander if I sold the S but I'm concerned it is not as "sporty" as the rzr. As far as handling I'm worried about tipsy ness. I am mainly interested in using my next utv for hunting/ camp and casual rides. I love giving Er and riding hard which leads to wanting a machine with more power.

So anyone here go from commander rzr? Any comparison? I asked on their forum and of course no one had regrets trading from a rzr to a commander.

I sold my Commander and here's why,

#1...Rear diff noise is soooo loud my wife stopped riding with me,
after two rear diffs under warranty it was still so loud I'd get
a headache after 30 or 40 miles. Very poor design.

#2...The clutch is junk, It cost me $1000 for an ///AirDam Clutch
the ///AirDam clutch is awesome and completely fixed my
clutch issues, I should not have had to spend $1000 on a
new machine, poor design.

#3...The rack is junk, I had to replace the rack after 550 miles,
very cheap rack, it cost me $400 for a Rackzilla, problem solved.

#4...The engine is mounted in-between the seats, the heat is excessive.

#5...One of the exhaust pipes runs directly under the CVT, bad design,
I felt the heat was an issue so I installed a CVT blower.

#6...Visco-Loc is crap, not a true four wheel drive, poor design.

#7...Torque steer is brutal on big hills as the Visco-loc cycles.

#8...Control arm bushing and design are a carry over from Can-am's
quads, way too small, way too thin walled, I was changing front
control arm bushing sooo often I had to keep an inventory at my shop.

#9...ITC sucked, I had to purchase a $250 black box to inhibit it...poor design.

All of the above problems were remedied when I purchased my Jagged,
after almost 2000 miles I have not a single issue to report....

We went from Commander to RZR.

It was our fault that we took on some water and were willing to pay out of pocket to get it fixed, but the dealer honestly didn't know what to do to get it back up and running again.....so it sat in their shop with water in the engine for a month. Insurance saw it, and made the claim that it was a total.

I went back and forth with the dealership and even got BRP involved and BRP was trying to help, but it was the dealership that dropped the ball.

Not one time did the dealership ask us if we wanted to buy another one....so we looked around and went with Polaris.

No regrets.....and for the same amount of money, the Polaris rides so much better.

It's getting harder to want to sell my S since I have it close to the way I want it. But. I do wish to have that extra hp ..

I started riding borrowing my father in law's prowler and went with a guy that had a commander. Well the Commander was way better than the prowler so I started looking. Even went as far as contacting Gregg about the commander he sold. Luckily someone beat me too it and Gregg was nice enough to talk me through why he went with a rzr. I went and test drove a couple rzr's and ended up buying one. Absolutely love it and my 800S LE outperforms my friends commander in every way that we ride. He and his wife are quite jealous at how it smoothly goes over areas that bounce them around.

I would buy a ranger xp before a bought a commander again. The rear trailing arm suspension makes it feel like your riding a straight axle atv. I put $2000 walker evans shocks on mine and that didn't even help. The damn noises they make are ridiculous and the Visco lok four wheel drive SUCKS. There's only one thing I miss about my commander, and that's the factory seats they come with. I took a hit just to get rid of mine and get a rzr!

I think I am leaning my choice back towards a 900 xp. I really don't want to start over on accessories, so i'm going to sell it cheaper without the custom cab I just had done, and my ssv stereo, and just transfer those to a 900 when I find one. If the S doesn't sell then I still have a nice running machine. Next add on is a 30 in Light Bar.

I would take my RZR S over a commander. Others hit it on the head. RZR S has its flaws but to me is a better rounded machine. Commander has a nicer interior with the gauges. But thats about it besides power. I think the visco lok is crap because its only 3wd basically until you really get the front spinning well rock climbing or slow climbs that won't work.

I have rode in a couple other machines and find that the RZR is one of the best all around machines. Others may beat them on some aspects but for an all in one package there is nothing yet.
