a buddy and I are looking at taking our family out to the Idaho Spings area in late July to ride some trails. (never been out riding in the mountains) I'm planning on taking my 3 year old daughter with us in our 900 xp4 LE. Just wondering if anybody had any tips as far taking the young ones with them on the trails out there or if you thought she would be old enough to enjoy everything safely. thanks for your time

I started taking mine on long rides when they were two. Just don't do anything too crazy and no sudden stops or high speed maneuvers that will jerk their head around. If you have a 5 point harness with the mid height harness slots in an aftermarket bench, those work great. If not, you can strap in a car seat in all sorts of ways.

Welcome to the Addiction!!!(R)

I have friends who ride with children in car seats and helmets all the time. Use the Car seat! its there for a reason. Idaho Springs has 5-10 different trail systems pretty close that you can ride with peace of mind that the kids will be fine. Keep in mind that you have to trailer to them all. Unfortunately, Colorado does not recognize out of state plates so you have to get the Colorado OHV sticker.

May I make a suggestion? Unhook the sway bars from your RZR and get use to riding without them. You will not get the side to side jerking over ruts and rocks with them off and make the ride smoother for your girl. You will get some more body roll but I have mine off and ride Colorado specifically and will not go back to riding with them on. IMHO

FunTreks Guide Books and Electronic Trail Guides - FunTreks Guidebooks for Jeep Trails, 4 Wheel Drive Trails, and back country roads has books that cover the trails in the area you are asking about.

We started taking out grandson at 14 months and now our granddaughter at 11 months and they both love it. Use car seats and some kind of neck roll, they both work great.

In Meeker,Colorado which is only 3 hours away from Idaho Springs on July 17-20 we will be hosting the Wagon Wheel OHV Rendezvous. It is a family event and kids under 10 are free. There are trails with different levels of difficulty so that you wouldn't be put in a tough situation with your 3 year old. There is a concert and other fun things to do in town while you are at the rendezvous. I encourage you to take a look at our website www.wagonwheeltrails.org or our Facebook page Wagon Wheel OHV Rendezvous
