Have a leak down test done. That will tell a better story of what may be going on.

 

Is yours an regular Rzr or an S? 170 is a little low, but would be really low on an S.

Just got my razor out of the shop had them check the compression. They said one cylinder had 170 the other had 180.That sounds like pretty good compression. It is using about 1 half a quart of oil every time i fill the gas tank. . It doesn't leak oil, its not going in the breather, and know smoke. Could the oil rings be bad? Not sure what to do. Thanks for any help........

it could be as simple as bad valve stem seals


fyi...synthetic oil does not burn so it wont smoke !!!!

leak dow as tim said will tell you if its rings..... or intake or ex valves

 

This cylinder passed a leak down test at TDC. Bring the piston down an inch and it won't......
Synthetic oil will smoke, although very little, but you can damn sure smell it if you're burning enough.

i used almost 2 qts last trip no smoke but dam could you smell it...lol

 

Yes sir that is my new compression release! Funny thing is though, both holes had the same compression 125 to 127 every time I cranked it. The intake valve seat issue on the front hole evened them out....LOL.

It just turned 3000 miles. Its a regular rzr not s. I just took her apart, the cylinder walls look good. I never did do a leak down test. I'm going to put a new set of wiseco pistons in. Should i put new valve seals in? Thanks.

 

You may as well while you have it apart. It will only take a few minutes. They are around 18 bux each and there are only two of them. The Exhaust valves don't use stem seals.

 

Stitch, while you have the head off turn it upside down (with the valves and springs installed) and fill each combustion chamber with WD-40 or some type of penetrant that won't evaporate quickly. Watch to see if the level of the fluid goes down and if it does, check the intake and exhaust ports to see which valve it is leaking past.

i have a 2008 rzr. has cluch kit, dynatech ignition, k&n filter kit,fmf pipe, stock head pipe. roughly 6000 miles. pushing oil out the breather. is it time for top end rebuild or what. i didnt have commpression test or leak down test yet. can anyone help me with this problem

 

Mine was doing that and I add a small oil catcher between the valve cover and air filter intake. Go to this web site. This will help.. You still need to check the compression.

ive just rebuilt my top end on my rzr800 with je 10:75.1 piston,rings & a big bore cylinder(true800cc),also new gaskets.It now leaks a little oil from around the exhaust ports/holes on cylinder head.The bolts are tight & there is a new gasket in place.any suggestions??
