problems with instrument cluster

I have an 08 rzr and the instrument cluster has quit working all together. I have checked all the fuses and cannot find any bad. I have a friend that has the same and we took his cluster out of his rzr and still nothing so it has to be a power supply issue. Has anyone had any issues like this before?

My speedo quit but that was a bad sensor. Never heard of the entire gauge going dead. There are 2 locking plugs on the back. Wiggle the gauge out & make sure they're tight and the contacts are clean. A little spit on the rubber ring really helps get the gauge back in place...

Yeah I did that when I tried the other cluster. I had read somewhere else that someone had this problem with one and they traced it back to the voltage regulator and replaced that and it fixed the problem. I also read in the manual that if there is any type of voltage surge it could cause the cluster to shut down so this may have something to do with it, but not sure.

High voltage will make the cluster shut down and go into protect mode. First if you have checked the fuses and are for sure are good then you need to check the ground on pin 8 of the harness that goes to the cluster. Next you should have 12 volts on pin 1 of the harness and switched 12 volts on pin 2. If you have the proper voltages on pin 1 to pin 8 and pin 2 to pin 8 then the cluster is bad. If you don't have voltage at both of those pins then you have a wiring problem. You can take a jumper and apply the voltage to pins 1 and 2. However make sure that you understand what you are doing and not going to short out anything. If you are not comfortable doing that, don't do it. The service manual has a process for testing as I have discribed. The manual can be downloaded from forum member Teamhog. Do a search and you should be able to find him. what he has available is listed in the lower left of his signature.

i have had the the same issue, my cluster is dead, i have done every test that it calls for, but i have a bit of an electrical back ground so i took it one step further, when i tested the 12v constant on the instrument cluster plug it showed good, but when i plugged the cluster in and tested amperage when i turned the key switch on there wasn't any, so i ran a test lead from the battery to the 12v constant on the gauge and turned the key switch on and it came on and worked perfectly, i bought the test leads at radio shack for like 7 bucks and they were 3 ft long i just cut the 90's off and wired them together, it ended up being a bad splice, it comes from the fuse block then splits, one 12v constant goes to the ecu, and the other the instrument cluster.......good luck:rzrs:
