Question here. One of the Xp's in our group hits the rev limiter between 50-55 mph. We are thinking clutching. I read about different weights for different elevations. Do you think it could of got wrong weights from factory. Or any other ideas.

A guy posted recently about the same problem, his dealer is still trying to figure it out.
Sounds like either the Primary clutch is hanging open or the secondary sticking closed.
A friend of mine owns a Polaris dealership...they had an XP come it with the same problem..end up finding one of the clutch bolts loose..he couldn't tell me which bolt...all he knew was one of the clutch bolts was loose. Have your buddy take a look at the clutches, specifically check that both clutches are seated on the shafts and that the mount bolts are tight.

Yes its at the dealer as of Saturday they hadn't found a problem and Sandfest is coming soon! Starting to get pissed because they say if they cant find a problem then there is going to be a bill! If this is the case there is going to be a huge problem. This has to be a warranty bill an xp9 that tops out at 55 with a brand new belt at 8800 rpms! It has done this from day one but it went away and then started doing it again and now does it every single time! Even at low speeds running next to rzrray33 it runs 900-1000 rpm's higher than his????????? Anyone know how to contact POPO to talk to them and let them know how unhappy I am. The dealer doesn't seem to be able to just replace clutch because there concerned that they wont be reimbursed.

There is something related to the elevation that is occurring. In Utah, my XP has seen 77mph on the speedo...when I was in Oregon in June, I could only hit approximately 55mph or so before hitting the rev limiter.
This problem was updated on another post but not here I was the one that was having the problem. I took it to another dealer they replaced the clutch under warranty. It didn't have anything to do with elevation the XP9 all come with the same clutch weights I wish I had more facts to the specifics but it had something to do with tolerence. I was so upset after taking months to fix it and so happy that this dealer fixed it in a few days I didn't inquire as much as I should have. Have been told from this dealer 4 more have came in with same problem and now popo is not warranty them! Mine may have been different since it did this from day one. But good luck its a strange deal because it does come and go so sounds like you have the same problem.

I'm having a similar issue with mine, except mine is only hitting 8350 rpm's at 65 mph. Dealer has it now. They checked fuel pressure, changed plugs and wires, and inspected clutches and belt. It has a new belt on it. Still only going to 8350 though.

No mods done. It has 1200 miles on it. My buddy has an xp with about 1100 miles on it and his is doing same thing. He has no mods either. Ingesting sand might be a problem, we both have been to the dunes a few times. Mine use to run 77mph at 8750 rpm on the limiter. Now it seems like it is hitting the limiter at 8300-8400.

8200-8300 rpm. We tested a new one at the dealer and it did the same thing, hit rev limiter at 8200-8300 rpm in low range. I guess its suppose to be limited to a lower rpm in low range. That makes me wonder if the sensor on the tranny might be telling the computer its in low when its really in high?

I went through this same problem back in late July with mine. Polaris could not figure it out. It all started happening about 900 miles and just slowly got worse. Meaning I used to see 80mph and 8750 rpm then it was slower and less rpm. By the time the dealer was test riding it it was down to 55mph / 8250 rpm. They put a new ecm , complete wiring harness, belt and were just stumped and what it could be. I finally picked it up at the dealer so I could ride it until they come up with another idea. Well I started looking at the clutch and found that towards the end of the weights there were groves worn in from the rollers. So the rollers were hanging up and making it harder to shift. Thats why it got worse a little at a time as the grooves got worse the speed and rpms got less. I took the weights out and carefully filed /sanded the the grooves out and all was fine. When I called my dealer and told him he just couldn't believe that the weights were bad that quick and called the factory that (he just found that because he didnt tell them that I took it home,LOL) So at first they told him to take a clutch off another machine for me but then they called him back and said they will send him a 2012 clutch for me because it was a better set up.
Well in the mean time of them sending it I bought a EPI clutch kit (with no weights). So after about two weeks of waiting for the clutch I finally get it and find that the weights are different in the 2012! so trying to use it with my clutch kit I got about 7700 rpms. So with my nephews XP down to about 65 mph and 8400rpm I took his weights out and gave him my new 2012 ones and lightly sanded his and all was good. I have since bought new weights and has been ok.
By the way, with the 2012 set up in his 2011 and mine with the EPI we ran almost dead even. I would pull ahead a little up to 40mph but then it was even.
So in summary? It most likley your clutch. Check your weights. My dealer has fixed more that mine since then
