Pro R fuel Range

As someone who is used to doing 100+ mile trips with my rzr I need to know a real world fuel range the Pro R cars will do? I think the tank is a gallon smaller than the Pro XP 4 and the Pro R engine is of course bigger. I really need a car that can consistently do 100+ miles minimum. I carry 1 3gal rotopax currently and have had to use it on several occasions. Any info is appreciated.

I am suspecting about a 50mi fuel range decrease and just need some numbers before I reserve a Pro R 4. With the 1 gallon less fuel + the almost doubling of Cubic inch in the 4 cyl engine it would be nice if polaris would have thought of that and tried to compensate.

How do you know they didn’t?

NA and high compression is going to be more fuel efficient then low compression with turbo potentially. Especially when cruising at moderate and low throttle.

The proR definitely uses a lot more fuel that my turboxp. We found that running in high and rock mode for pedal control got best fuel mileage. I’m sure the tunes that they come out with will help. It loves fuel! I will know more in next couple of weeks. I do know for long trips we will carry extra fuel for sure.

Fuel economy will be most influenced by how much HP you use, and weight plays a role as well. The losses associated with spinning two extra pistons isn't as great as you might suspect. The Pro R has a theoretical horsepower of 225 versus the Pro Turbo XP at 181. That's about 25% more HP and you are pushing some extra weight. So, you might expect about a 30% decrease. The higher CR of the NA engine should more than offset the losses from pushing two more pistons. But wait, will you be using all that extra available HP? I suspect not. My best guess will be a 25% loss in fuel economy.

In the real world the guys that have the Pro R will best be able to give you range data, but there is no way that the range will be 1/2 simply because it has four cylinders.

I just did a nice-weather Friday day-trip to Gordon’s Well dunes near Glamis. First time in the Pro R 4 Sport. If my math is correct, got about 7 mpg running 4wd and pushing it hard all day. I probably used an extra 5 gallons more than the other Turbo S cars with me that day. Fwiw: I feel like the gauge might not be totally accurate. At one point it showed about 1/3 tank left, but only took 6 gallons to fill. Also, such an amazing machine.
Edit to add: No passengers, cargo, or accessories. Running 33” SS360 Hd sand paddles front and rear.

I wasn’t meaning dune riding isn’t real world necessarily in my comment. With the sand and required power to get it around, it’s going to be a fuel hog with the drag. Trails or dirt should be better. Hopefully a tune comes out to help. Part of the issue is likely the stock tuning for emissions is my guess

Hoping my fuel gauge is off. Only had one riding day with mine 57 miles with 13% fuel remaining. If I put 12 gallons in when I fill it for my next ride it will confirm 6-ish mph. It will also confirm there is a Pro R with less than 100mph on it that’s for sale. Might wait to see what Can Am answers it with because they will answer it. At any rate the 2022 X3 has a lot of good improvements and I’m hearing 12-16 mph.

I’ll bet the real men with souped up 454s back in the day didn’t whine about about not getting as good of mileage as theirs moms 305. Lol.

shite talk from the A-clown Crybaby that was upset about losing $7500 a day to go pick up his Pro R. Some of us aren’t driving around in circles next to our trailers.

researched a lot of fuel carrying options. I personally don’t like the idea of putting fuel in plastic containers inside of a plastic bed on top of a motor. It would also take at least five of the Roto pax to give me 120 mile range. Still need to be able to carry all the other necessary gear. Not really interested in spending the thousands of dollars it would take to rework the chassis to put another 10 gallons worth of fuel in it inside of a safe custom built fuel cell.

Thanks for all the great posts so far. I do mostly trails and 10 - 50 mph cruising desert trips with 3-4 people in the car, 3 gal Rotopax, tools, cooler, and sometimes a small bbq. I am looking for some numbers to resemble this situation but please post anything you have so everyone knows what mpg they can expect based on that type of driving.

Today was a disappointing day. We went to wildcat off Road in Kentucky we ran 27.1 miles and used 6.678 gallons of fuel. That’s a whopping 4.06 miles per gallon. split back and forth between low and high gear but never went above 13 miles an hour mostly under 10 mph. RPMs usually between 3500 and 4500 occasionally on climbs as high as 5500. Went slow because it was muddy. No we weren’t spinning tires again only 27.1 miles. Topped off the fuel till I could see it settle out about 4” down in the neck before and after. High point of the trip was Wildcat off road is an awesome place to ride. Pro R was very smooth would crawl anything I tried other than the doom. That took some wheel speed. Love everything about the Pro R except the fuel range. How is it possible to get that bad of mpg on anything in 2022?

Hot for omissions would be lean.
Maybe if they were off the other way from a stoichiometric fuel ratio but it would have to be seriously rich and running poor smelling like a 1960s motor.
our Jeep JL has a 2.0L motor turbocharged more power and it gets 18.5 mpg. so it must be a function of the CVT but no… Can Am X3s get 12 to 16 mpg with a CVT.

I’m going to do the same test again. I’m hoping the fuel pump was wrong. I usually buy fuel when I’m as close to empty as possible single-digit range left in the tank. several times I have put more fuel in my vehicle tank than it should hold when completely empty. but that’s filling up a 20 gallon or a 24 gallon or a 36 gallon fuel tank depending on which vehicle and I only wind up putting about 2 gallons more than it should hold in it. So I doubt the fuel pump would’ve been off that much.
I like everything else about the Pro R so much I am going to look into a larger or auxiliary fuel cell. And not a plastic jug in the bed.
