Pro Armor Doors question? Help

I was wondering if anyone has had an issue or noticed the screws that hold the door skins on the door are pretty long. I've scratched my arms and legs a few times on these screws... Besides the obvious and changing the length of the bolts, has anyone had any issues like this with their doors? Any ideas on an easy fix would be appreciated.. I thought of acorn nuts, but I don't want to sacrifice the look either.. Thanks

you answered your own question. take a bolt out and go to hardware store and see if they have a shorter (appropiate) length bolt. acorn nut would look funky, i would get a shorter bolt.

Mine stick out at least 1/4" beyond the nut. A buddy told me PRo Armor in fact recently changed the length of the screws, but I can't get anyone to confirm it for sure. I just want shorter screws that work. I'm going to try PA again

I put the acorn nuts on them, I dont have pics but they dont look bad. They had plastic ones that are white you could die them black I suppose but I used chrome, looks good to me.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one getting nicked up by the bolts. I like the feedback on different ideas, even the acorns on the Outside.. I really don't want acorn nuts on the inside, so I may just have to find shorter screws and be done with it".

I did contact Pro Armor a few months back and I was told that they had a few complaints and were in the process of changing the screw size. I wasn't really offered any help with my problem which is why I'm looking for other options. I'm not that handy and I'm better at paying people to fix stuff for me. Im looking for other ideas and truly just someone to give me the correct size bolt which someone threw out there early in the thread.

I would measure how much thread is sticking out beyond the fully tightened nut, you should only have 1 to 2 threads exposed after the nut and bolt are fully tightened. Deduct what you need from the existing bolts, proceed to a hardware store (Fastenal ususally has everything you need). I would reccomend grade 8 bolts with new nuts that have nylon inserts on the nuts (help prevents the nut back off on it own). Just my two cents.....

I appreciate all the feedback. It looks like it's hit or miss on short bolts or long bolts. My next step is another call to Pro armor asking if they do indeed have now starting using shorter bolts and get them to ship me some. I tried Home Depot and couldn't find anything similar

Holy cow you for sure don't need grade 8 bolts to hold a door skin on... Measure how much is sticking out past the nut, remove the nut and take the bolt to a real hardware store match it up with one that is shorter by that margin, reinstall and your done.

I just bought a stick of blue loctite, (yep, you can get it in a stick), and put a dab on the bolts. Mine where a bit long but with my electric screwdriver I was able to get them tight enough. It will be heck when I need to remove them! :scared2:
