Just ordered a set of LTR450 to do front susp. Will the front end sit higher than the rear since I'm keeping the rear stock? Also can I run 28x9s all the way around without major rub? This is on a 2012 stock 50". Finally are standard washers OK to use to keep shock centered in mount since spacers are no longer available? Thanks to all past contributors for all of this info and TIA to any response to my ?s.

The LTR450 shock is about an inch longer than the front stock shock and has stiffer springs so yes the front is going to sit a lot higher. Measure it before to see what is your front and rear clearance difference is before you do this mod. Most recommendations I have seen set the front about a 1/2 inch to 1 inch higher than the rear. If it's more than that it might ride funny. The washers can be standard as long as they fit the bolt. 28x9's may fit, it is usually the passenger side motor mount that rubs. Most 28 inch tires are 10 inches wide so may need wheel spacers. If you don't replace the rear shocks, at least tighten up the preload on them. Here's a youtube how to:

This may be a silly question and I don’t believe I seen it come up on any of the previous post but does this work on the newer 900 trails? I just bought a 2016 900 trail and purchased the yz shocks. I haven’t test fitted them yet but it looks like the reservoir will hit the rear frame?

I have Honda TRX450 fronts on front and Canam DS450 fronts on back with DS 450 rear springs on them. You have use spacers in the front and I made a coil spacer for the rear, but you can buy them. I did a little clearance grinding on the top of the DS shocks that's it for fab.

thank you 99kdx, That may work, but it looks like when I buy the ds450 front shocks and rear springs, I will be close to the cost of the lower cost replacements available on market. I have the LTR's on the front (or have ordered at least) just looking to finish the rear as inexpensive as possible.

I do appreciate the idea, I will look into it as an option.

I have recently installed '08 TRX450R shocks on the front, along with removing both sway bars, and the ride is dramatically improved. I found some low use take offs for $150 locally. Now I am trying to locate shocks for the rear. I have found a set of like new YFZ450R front shocks here locally as well, but the owner is out of town and I can't get any measurements on the mounting eyes to see if they will work. They are within 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length of the original, near as I can tell. Anyone have experience with these? Thanks.

The person with the YFZ shocks flaked on me, so I found a couple of YZ426 shocks. The problem is, I don't have a 50" 800, I have a 570. It looks like I don't have the room the 800's have. Has anyone done mods to make these work? Thanks.

Check these out.
