Options on replacing engine (800 S)

Knowing I was rolling the dice, I bought my first sxs, an '09 800 S with 8400 miles on it. Third ride and it starts losing power and making a very loud exhaust sound, then just stops and won't even turn over. Feels like I smoked the engine, but my question is how bad. Can I still turn this in as a good core? Realizing it probably takes a look inside, just thought seizing the engine might be an indicator of what I've ruined.

Also, what years of RZR engine will fit an '09 800 S?

Will bigger engines fit, like 900 or 1000?

I was told that other Polaris 800 engines would fit, like from a Sportsman. How about the 800 snowmobile?

Any other wisdom or insight is appreciated, b/c I'm super noob in the sxs world.

Thanks in Advance and Peace

Welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. the core determination is sort of up to the supplier of the new engine. I don't know what engines would fit for a swap out. I"m sure someone on the forum will have an answer for that. Keep in mind that swapping for larger newer may require some electronic work. I think I would go the crate engine route instead of swapping for a used engine. JMHO
