Hello everyone. I just bought a 2008 rzr 800. It has 150 hours and a tad under 1500 miles. It seems to run great, but has one thing that im not sure about. When driving, there is a whistling noise. It increases with rpm. I have a 2012 570 and have had polaris atvs and i dint recall this whistle. She accelerates and operates fine. Any thoughts?

You could be hearing the clutches. They are much louder on the 800's, being as they are right behind the seats.

I have a rzr 800 4 and i have the same thing. i agree with Brian it is nothing to be worried about.
i thought so. I pulled the cover and saw the belt cover right behind the seats. Figured that may be it.

Also, ive read about the airbox issures on the 800s. Just early models like mine? Or all 800s? What did you guys do? Ive read about the grumpy mod, new intakes, etc.

The older models had problems pulling the airbox boot off of the throttle body. I bought a UTV Inc grill, then glued Outerwears material to it as a prefilter. And I now run a R2C air filter in the stock airbox.

It lets more air in. The oem set-up actually pulls air through a small slot below where that grill is. It does not have any filtration there at all. So the since I added the Outerwears material to the grill it filters all the intake air, including to the clutches. Which is what the grumpy mod does. But mine isnt as restictive as a paper or k&n filter.

Sorry I forgot to add that to my last post. I cut a piece of aluminum to fit the oem slot and sealed it up. So mine now pulls all the air through the grill. I will say it is a bit louder inside the rzr, more clutch noise and engine intake. But I would definately do the mod again.

Depends on what you mean by "whistle"? Gotta lightbar on the roof? If so, good chance that's where it is coming from? Change the angle of it. They make a whistle when the wind blows through the fins, especially cheaper ones. I can hear mine doing it when I haul it down the road on the trailer after hitting it on branches and stuff, causing it to be aimed up slightly. I have to keep turning it down every once in a while. Or, I suppose I could quit driving through low hanging branches, but where is the fun in that?

I am also hearing a "jet engine" sound from the area of the belt/clutches on my 2009 800 LE. I was under the impression the noise is the air being moved by the fan on the back of the primary clutch. The air intake for the clutch (I believe) is essentially behind your shoulder when seated in the driver's seat. The turbine noise is directly related to engine RPM as opposed to driveline speed so thus my assumption it is coming from the fan on the primary clutch.

If my assumptions are off base, please correct me as I am far from a RZR 800 expert.
