Hello all so I recently purchased my first rzr its a 2009 rzr 800 in nuclear sunset I scored it for 1000 bucks but the motors locked up tight. Which I knew going into this ill rebuild the motor myself then I know what I have but I've never worked on one before so this whole platform is new to me. Was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for parts like a complete crank kit and what brands to stay away from. This thing is beautiful has thousands in aftermarket parts 5 inch super atv lift rhino 2.0 axles new wheels and tires full doors aftermarket radiator and power commander. I can't wait to tear into this thing and hear it run again.

Well I pulled the motor apart and I did not like what I seen. Head dead Jim so idk if this motors even rebuildable at this point I gotta pull the clutch and get the motor split to see but it looks like it was run with no oil and the rod let loose taking the cam and jug with it.

I cannot take credit for that master piece lol I figured it would would about 12 to 1700 for mt to rebuild it myself but I'm worried the bearing surfaces are all messed up I didn't get the motor out to inspect it yet. I have no problem rebuilding it myself if it's salvageable but I don't think it is lol. I'll look into gtm I was looking at rev6 motors since they finance the motors and have a year warranty. Unless I happen to find a used motor somewhere.

From what I was told he was out riding it started knocking then stopped now judging by the 3 cases of empty twisted tea in the floor I assume that played a major roll in why it's dead lol. Plus when I checked the dip stick there's no oil in it. The ends of the balancer shaft from what I can see are blued from getting hot so it was lack of oil and maintenance they killed it. Atleast the head looks good lol.

When it's bad and sticks it will either starve your motor and burn it up or it will stick open and flood your lifters and shut it down. Never know what it will do and like i said it burned up my buddies and almost my motor. Put the 2 5/16 ball bearings in tested pressures for a month and took off gauge and sending it now with piece of mind. It's a crappy design flaw. Wait till you find out about the pinion nut. I just got done doing that and mine was one ride away from blowing up. Many threads on that as well. Worked out for me and was a little labor but not hard.

Well I pulled that plug quick to see if it was stuck and well its either not in there or stuck that bad that my 500lb magnet can't get it out I tried poking with a screw driver and using the magnet and nothing but the spring came out. So it's gone or super stuck my magnet is one of those 500lb magnet fishing magnets which I assumed should have pulled that sucker right out. So maybe that's why I blew up.

Yep if the magnet sticks to something in there than its that dowel. It's stuck. It's a bad flaw in the engine. The ball bearings work perfect. Screw that dowel. It could happen again on your rebuild or new engine. It's a flaw. Watch D Ray's shop pressure relief dowel on you tube. Great video. He saved my motor.

Remove plug & spring, hold rag over hole, and start engine, dowel may pop out.
May need to soak with carb cleaner or solvent.
BE READY TO STOP ENGINE AS SOON AS DOWEL POPS OUT, OR YOU WILL HAVE OIL EVERY WHERE.

I knew that, but forgot. At this point, you can push it out from below, when the motor is torn apart.

That's probably what happened because there's no oil in the motor before I pulled it apart so that probably stuck and it pushed all the oil out the filter the dipstick was bone dry so im going to assume thats what happened. As far as using my magnet to get the dowel out my magnet didn't stick to anything there it only pulled the spring out I tried a small pocket screw driver with a magnet on it and nothing so its either stuck good or not there lol.

Crazy. Maybe they ran it without one. Will still starve motor of oil and burn it up but would not blow oil seal. Crazy man. Dude I bought a used one as well and holy crap I had to rebuild the whole freaking bike. People don't do simple maintenance on these things and cause a lot of issues. Make sure to clean throttle body real good as well.if the magnet doesn't stick then it's not there. Some people have punched them through into the motor trying to unstick them. Hard to say man.

I was thinking of running a snorkel just due to the location of it. For 1000 bucks even if I put 2k into it im still happy it has brand new super atv 5 inch lift rhino 2.0 axles all around it has a ton of money put into it so it will be an amazing machine wants its running again.

From what I seen there's about 3 to 4k in parts the exhaust wheels and tires the lift and axles alone. So I'm happy I got it so cheap and the orange paint sold me I have a orange blast srt4 so it's perfect lol. I recently got a 99 scrambler 500 4x4 for 300 bucks and I love it the. I seen this and couldn't pass it up. I'm gonna go buy 2 ball bearings for when I get a new motor or rebuild this one.

Sky's the limit man. If you want to get bigger pistons and jug go for it. It all depends on how heavy of tires you want to run and how you want to ride. Then you'll have to do clutch upgrades etc. If it were me i would get a drop in motor. On a burned up rebuild like that God only knows what you'll have to replace in it and when you fire it back up will it run. A place like GTM with warranty is the way to go in my opinion. It's not like it was just a crank bearing or a top end. That is a locked up God knows what's wrong nightmare. I've read of too many people's rebuilds costing a thousand dollars more than a complete refurbished one with warranty.

Dude i would of driven across country for that deal. Up here in Illinois I paid 8k for mine last year but sold 2 quads so really i only paid 2k for mine but up here they hold their value. I got ripped of as well cause it was beat the hell up. I would have to drive to southern Tennessee or farther to get a good deal. Yours is decked out. Unreal how someone puts so much money into it and basically gives it away cause they blew the motor. Wow. Mine runs and rides tits now but I way overpaid.

Yeah it has a ton of aftermarket parts I even got the clean title with it. I'm trying to find a place that would maybe finance a motor for it. I keep searching but nothing local. I'm hoping when I get my clutch tool tomorrow and I pull the motor out and apart that it's rebuildable I don't mind building it I'm my own warranty lol I'm determined and impatient lol I wanna get it running as soon as I can.

I'm worried about the case because how bad the rod was broken it snapped the cam on 4 places and it was run low on oil so I need to thoroughly inspect the case and cam bearings and everything to make sure I'm able to build it. I have no problem building myself and would honestly feel more comfortable knowing I built it lol. If it's salvageable I'll find out tomorrow this is the kit I found I feel this is everything I need to build my motor if the case isn't wrecked. What do you guys think of this kit???
