Did you go thru mud that deep?

I've found "mud" in mine but it was dust & dirt mixed with inhaled wash water.

 

I got the same problem on mine. Snokels are not going to help as all kits I have seen retain the air filter box.
I guess you could snorkel before he airbox and cros your fingers that whatever filter you use at the end of the snorkels do their jobs.
I have tried to double up on the o rings on the lid and it is till not working 100%.
I might use black duct tape aroud the joint befoe everyride:nuts:

 

I made a snorkel for cvt intake and exhaust, engine air intake and all my vent lines for about $60 worth of pvc and about 3hrs time. It works very well, i have over 1200 miles on it and only had to clean the filter once, and i don't shy away from dust, mud and flying debris..

 

I have mine snorkeled, and haveent had any mud, and water in the airbox. I bet your top hinge in the air box lid wasnt hooked. Be more carefull when you put the lid on, and make sure you get that top front seated right before puting the clasps on.

 

BTI performance makes the best air-box mod out there. it's the best because you get to throw away that crapy stock air-box. It's expensive, but it really works.

 

Grease the lip in the lid and the groove in the airbox well with some general purpose grease of most any sort. Be liberal with it, and this will help ensure a good seal when you snap it into place.

 

First off make sure the rubber seal is still on the lid. Remove the seal and put a coating of waterproof grease in the groove on the lid. Then put the seal back on the lid. Then put a VERY liberal ammount of grease on the aixbox where the lid will seal to it. Button it all back up together. This should seal it right up. Attached to my post is a picture with my airbox completely submerged which happens a minimum of once a ride with us. Granted I am snorkeled, but the airbox has never leaked on me.

Yep, the stock airbox lids leak air, water and dust in at the top where the "tongue and Groove" latch area is located..We run Uni filters and actually silicone the lid on..Little hastle on reclean but keeps every thing operating as designed...

The problem with silicon for us is that if you have to remove your lid during a ride (snorkels go under), then you have no way to reseal it. If you use grease, it sticks on there and you can reuse it. Also, note that silicon breaks down over time and that seal will no longer be sealed.

 

I cannot relate with you on deep mud riding we dont do it...But If the box is sealed properly no mud or water can get in under normal operation , just the dusty air from where the actual box breathes inbetween the seats in the secondary box..(Gen 3)The problem we had with greasing the lip is it attracts dirt..We do not mud ride so the only time we open up the air box is for a good bath. Just as with a Motocross bike ,in extreamly dutsy to powdery conditions I may change the filter during the day. Rare with the RZR...The Uni filters work, its only enemy is water and neglect..I am sure ,as you know the stock paper unit is junk it cannot handle dust ,dirt, or water..Silicone for us..

Okay, I'm all over doing the grease on the lid, but what is the best filter to replace the stock junk with? K&N, UNI?? The whole snorkel thing is killing me too.....will it jar loose if I use it to jump with? I run a GNCC type cross country series as well as hit the mud..I know, complete opposites..but wanted something that would work for both.

 

What filter to go with, well thats like saying should I get a Ford or a Chevy. I have been using K&Ns for years with no problems.

As far as a snorkel being loose (assuming you are talking about making a snorkel), that depends entirely on how you design it.

 

Wasn't looking to design one myself...I'm semi retarted..I was looking to purchase one and was wondering if they can take the jumping of a RZR or just for mud and water playing.

 

The snorkel i made was very simple to do, needed very few supplies and has went through 1500 miles of hell and no issues. seals 100% and i've only clean my filter twice. I ride in deep mud, muskeg, sand, and dusty fireroads with no problems so it has proven itself. I like the fact that if i can breath, it can breath.

 

My airbox looks alot worse than that from my last ride.I'm going to throw the airbox away and use pvc right from the air intake up to a k&n.It won't happen again.My check engine light is on and I hope its for the 50 hour check and not something wrong.

 

I like to go thru mud and yes water sometimes pretty deep and well hate to say but i have gotten water in my air box 2 times now and water in my throttle sensor plug, and i didnt go higher than my factory snorkel on my 17 polaris ranger
first air cleaner was a k&N and i was told those were useless they suck water right thru. I but a paper stock filter in and the 2nd time i went seat deep in water again i open the box and there was water. So apparently theres an issue with these air boxes polaris needs to figure out. I am going to try some grease like another post states and see if that solves the problem.
