low speed, running rough

I recently replaced muffler, new slip on.
Starts easy and runs great accelerating and high rpm.
Idles rough and misses at low speeds

Not to be too contrarion, but muffler replacement isn't likely to be it. Nor would that explain rough idle. Before you drop $500 on a tune try slipping the old muffler back on. If that's it I'll stand corrected, and you'll need to consider the $500 tune. I'm not too sure a non-turbo gets enough value for any of this, but...

Otherwise, any chance you banged into our hurt the o2 sensor? got too close to a spark plug wire and it's now arching? etc...

I'm a little late, but you might want to glance at this too:

Luck to you none the less.

A more free flowing exhaust of course lets more air flow through then engine. ecu cant compensate enough fuel for the added air flow and that causes the engine to run lean. So there’s where a tune or fuel controller corrects the situation.

Crash:
If in fact the exhaust was a significant bottleneck first. Lots of guys been down this road and reported little happening via a simple slip on change, but then LJrat says his RS1 did the same things, so maybe something is unique with that. Still, rare would the time be that you'd be thinking "look at all that flow" at idle. Idle.

OP:
What does the slip on mfg say? Most will tell you if they require a tune. Evo's EVP does not. In fact I know of none that do.

Take a look at this thread:

Now again, there may well be something special about the RSI, and I accept LJ's experience, but common experience is otherwise. This really is a "call the vendor and ask if they require a tune" time.

Good luck!

+1 on what has been said already. Put back on the OEM exhaust. Problem go away? If yes, then 'backpressure is a thing' and a tune is probably required (you might try pulling the battery lead first, and letting the ECU reset to factory, in case its done some learning over time that no longer applies). If no, then you might have banged the O2 sensor. Although, in the latter case, I would expect a code to be thrown.

Good call. So many upgrades that will make a bigger difference in your enjoyment. Like suspension, tires. lights, winch. On a turbo it's a "gut it asap", but on a NA motor there isn't much, arguably nothing. Somewhere along the line Joe made the comment that most tunes, on an N/A motor, really only feel faster because the change the throttle by wire sensitivity. They make little more actual power.

In any event, it's for sure a tough thing to think about dropping $1k into a slip on and tune on a NA machine when compared to the results the turbo guys get.

Then there is the whole "don't make it louder" conversation too.

Another little gotcha is vendor claiming "4 more hp". Which most will think "peak". But often isn't.

YMMV.

All I was considering was the drop in temps. I would put a programmer on it but I don’t want to effect the warranty. Heck we still have our 900xp and it has plenty of power so I’m sure the rs1 will be more than enough as it’s just a secondary machine.
