I'm gonna purchase a 30" light bar to mount on the top front bar of my rzr1k. Does anybody have a how to on how to do this? I would like to add a rocker switch seperatly to control only the light bar when I want it on and off? Where do you run it to get power to it? Thanks in advance guys

Well there are a number of ways to mount a light bar to the RZR. Our light bar mount is one way. Check it out when you get a second.

The next question is the electrical hookup. This is based on how you want to do it. If you want to hook up other accessories then get a power distribution block (with fuses) and run it from the battery to the 3 post connection, and from there run it to the power distribution block. We have a kit for that as well.

If you want the light bar only, then get enough wire to connect it straight to the battery. That or connect the 3 post to the battery and then connect that to the light bar. We do sell a 3 post only set of connections to the battery that's all preterminated and ready to install.

Now on the switch question, there should be one included with the bar. If there is not, you need to make a splice in the connection from the bar to the power connection. This is usually done with a relay. If you get a switch that is rated to handle the power the bar draws then you don't need a relay but usually they aren't something that would look good in a RZR dash. I would say since we could probably go into great detail about to make that work, I would just make sure to buy a bar that has a switch with it.

I hope this helps,

Al

My 30" light bar has 60 3watt leds, for a total of 180watts. Divide 180watts by 12volts it should pull 15 amps. So it would be pushing a 15 amp switch to its limits. I'd rather just put it on a 30amp relay and not have to worry about it. But I'm pretty anal about things. Lol!

Thanks for the help guys..... On one of those threads I was reading it said that the power strip under the front top panel of our rzrs does not have power running to it. Is this true for all models and years. I saw where they ran an 8 gauge wife from the battery to the BAT side of that plate

AFAIK there is only one model that comes with those terminals powered and that is the highlifter edition. Your light bar should come with a harness, switch and relay. All I did for mine was remove their switch and add a rocker switch. Depending on the rocker switch you will have to splice an extra ground and power wire from their harness to power the LEDs on the switch. Also, someone has already stated a 30" bar will pull around 15A. I wouldnt want to put that straight to a switch so use keyed accessory power to run through your switch and trigger the relay (my harness with my light was already built this way). The link bigjeepman posted has good info in it for wiring the switch.

After you get the light bar, youll need the mounts:

UTV INC POLARIS RZR XP 1000 & 900S RIGID 30" LED LIGHT BAR MOUNTS FOR OEM CAGE

UTV INC POLARIS RZR XP 1000 & 900S UNDER ROOF 30" LED LIGHT BAR MOUNTS

UTV INC POLARIS RZR XP 1000 & 900S UNDER ROOF TOTRON 30" LED LIGHT BAR MOUNTS

UTV INC POLARIS RZR XP 1000 & 900S 30" TOTRON ABOVE ROOF LED LIGHT BAR MOUNTS

Depending on brand (size) of your light bar and where you want it to attach (over/under) you can use any of those 4 mounts shown above ---^

Then for wiring, we typically pull power from the battery to the under hood terminal utilizing this kit:

UTV INC POLARIS RZR XP 1000 UNDER HOOD TERMINAL POWER CABLE KIT

We typically wire the light bar off a fused distribution block like this:

UTV INC 65 AMP 12V 6 SLOT DISTRIBUTION BLOCK

Then we wire it to a switch like this:

UTV INC BACK LIT SWITCH - DOUBLE ROW LIGHT BAR

Some light bars will come with the wiring harness already so it makes it a lot easier to wire it all up, simply provide power and ground, mount the switch and you're set!

There's a place at the top and bottom of the cage to fish the wiring harness thru, so it can be hidden.

Lay out the hole, drill the corners, x-acto knife or Dremel tool to finish.

I think the '15 XP1K dash is exactly the same as the '15 900. If it is you can take the hood off to access the two bolts that hold the dash on. Take those out and pull back on the dash to get the clips to pop out. On the back of the dash opposite the factory switches you should see two rocker switch sized outlines. Drill and cut just like Denver said and you'll have a perfect opening for your new switch.

I have the '16 S900. There are 2 outlines on the passenger side just as MCase described. I understand thathat our machines share dashboards. I purchased a kit for a XP1K/ S900 because I needed 6 switches. As this is the case I believe it would cost more for polarise to have a dash made that is so close, yet different. If this is too late, I apologize. I am curious though, it the outlines are there, and for the love of God, lets see some pics! Hope you had a great Christmas and the new Year is starting off well!

So a little confirmation today..... The outlines are indeed there. Polaris put 2 outlines incase you wanted to add 2 more rocker switches. I only need one so I cut one out and will be mounting my bar soon when it gets here.

Another question somebody had mentioned that there is a hole on the top of the cage where you can run the wire of the light bar which I see. But where does it come out from? Does anybody have any pics?

Comes out on the rear side of the tube at the bottom where it bolts together just above the dash.

haha I ordered them off ebay. I think dunertunes also offers them. I'm gonna order a couple DPDT switches for my light bars and for my cubes in the end. Sad thing is I'm running out of room under the hood for relays. I need to redo my whole system as its starting to look a bit sloppy.

So I got everything hooked up and it seems to have power running thru but light bar is not turning on. Could it be because of the ground. In the pic I have a ground to the far left and right. I saw in another thread where someone had grounded some accessories here so I decided to do the same. Excuse the messy wiring I'm not done with it. Where should I get my ground from? Does anybody have pics?

Did you get the wiring harness you had mentioned from amazon? Without knowing how the harness is designed to be wired we are kinda shooting in the dark here.

#36 ·
Also have you checked the light bar by hooking it straight to the battery?

With engine off and key on, flip switch and listen for the relay to click. Mine went bad soon after install.
