Is there any harm to be done if you use kerosene to flush out your front diff? Or for that matter the tranny, engine, rear diff? Thanks.

I can't imagine that there would be. One could also use diesel fuel, which is just refined kerosene with a detergent additive. If you put the machine up on stands, you could also fire-up the engine (with oil still in the crankcase) and briefly cycle the gears and AWD functions, to assure a good clean-out of the trans and differentials. I would not, however, try to run the engine with kerosene/diesel in the crankcase, as neither has very good lubricating properties. My two-bits.........

Cheers

Just a clarification... Diesel is not refine kerosene. Kerosene is a super high quality product, just behind gasoline. One does not make Diesel from K.

Jerr, You can get a clean gallon of K1 at the box homes stores. Use what's left over to light your bar-b-q. K1 is pretty cool stuff. You don't need K1, but it smells a lot less and it won't stain things. Easier to clean up too.

Thanks guys! The front diff was my main concern and you see a lot of peps posting problems with the front diff. Most have to do with the plastic sprague or the alluminum not fitting well. Also, the overall design of the hillard clutch system seems to be so unique that you can only use Polaris front diff fluid..:rollfinger:

I give my front diff a work out and one thing to be true is that there is a lot of sludge (metal) that builds up in the front diff-more so than any where else that I've encountered on the rzr . I've changed it three times with the diff fluid to flush it and it still comes out dirty---So I feel better about using kerosene after all of your responses. Its much cheaper and Im sure a better cleaner.

Thanks All!

I recently had my vent tube come off on a ride where I was in mud/sludge most of the day. When I discovered it. I put it on jack stands, drained and filled several times with 0W20 oil, cycling it though the gears with front wheel drive engaged. Also sprayed carb cleaner in thru the fill hole and vent hole at top. Used two large cans. Then re filled with correct fluid. To date no problems. I figured nothing in there more sensitive to carb cleaner than carbeurator parts.
