Is 33% reduction enough for 35s?

So a while back I had lower gears put in my 2020 Turbo S. At the time I really didn’t see me going bigger than 32 inch tall tires so I went with the 33/12/12 reduction Using Cryo treated Polaris gears. I also had new bearings and the improved snorkel plate install. Crawl ability with 32 Zillas is pretty dang good and the buggy does well for my type of riding, which is east coast style and rock climbing. Now fast forward almost two years and the use of 35s is common place and I can see 35s having an advantage over my 32s. Crawl ability is addictive!

1st question - can I get by with 33% low and 35s and enjoy any type of crawl ability and belt happiness?

assuming the answer is NO, 33 isn’t low enough….

2nd question - what do I need hardware wise to re-gear from 33% to 54% low?

thanks and look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Yes but it will do much better with a further reduction.
Percent reduction depends on each machine and not universal across the board. What gears (part #s or tooth count)did you install?

These?
#3235232 67T Low Gear
#3236132 25T Low Gear
#3235380 27T Stage 2 Gear
#3235381 46T Reverse Gear Shaft

2nd question - what do I need hardware wise to re-gear from 33% to 54% low?
#3235450 48T Stage 2 Gear
#3235451 25T Reverse Gear Shaft

Yes. The 23/50 combo is lower than the 25/48.

23/50 is 2.17:1.

25/48 is 1.92:1.

For 35s you will be much happier with the lower ratio. And the crash city clutch kit makes for a much better all around driving experience. It’s specifically designed for machines running low gearing. And it works great!

Billy Kamm in the broke boys Tackett creek hells revenge video is running 33/12/12 gearing with our clutch kit and put on 35’s on just for that trail and worked real well with it.

You could definitely try our clutch kit first before gearing. It’s kinda feels like a gear reduction multiplier if that makes sense lol. and if you would end up wanting more gearing then the clutch kit isn’t wasted money as it’s a upgrade that you can actually feel the difference it makes. And you don’t have to chase 1000 different weight setups to get it running decent.

The most important thing I’ve learned over the last 4 years or so talking with so many different types of riders wanting reduction is you don’t just sell them what you sell everyone else in general. You talk with them-many many times sometimes lol-to figure the gearing that matches their driving style, type of vehicle-not limited to just two or four seater-and where they ride, to determine how to gear their rzrs accordingly.

If you have a heavier foot or more agressive on the throttle you may not need the extra gearing of you have our clutch kit. If you’re a slower paced driver and crawling the rocksand don’t care if you hit 60 in high take that sucker as low as you can go.

Aj opened my eyes to super low gearing that rzr joe been running woth transmission and portals and then we put it in some jobs in the shop and wow.
Shoot me a message if you like and we can get you setup with whatever you may need.

thanks Crash City. Long time fan of your You Tube channel. My Son (who has 35 zillas and 54%) said the same thing about Billy having 33%. Great point on style and I am definitely a slower crawl style. Hang the fronts and give it a bump! I kinda knew in my heart if I wanted 35s I‘d have to pay the stupid tax of doing this gear reduction twice.

I’m starting to figure that out. I’m just talking in generalities as this whole gear reduction deal is kinda over my head! When industry talks about the 67/25/25 reduction in a two seat 2020 Turbo S, is it the 23/50 Turbo R parts they spec? Since it is more reduction than the 54% 25/48, I assume this is roughly the next reduction range listed, the 67%?

No, that is based on the 25/48 intermediate gears. Using a 23/50 will reduce all gear ratio roughly another ~13%. If you download the gearing spreadsheet from the first page and plug in your numbers it will give you % #s and final turns ratio as well as mph for each gear set selected. (I believe I uploaded the updated version).

That's why I caution everyone trying to compare % reductions between models because it is only relevant to the same model/year machine.
