Wanting to ride up the river water depths anywhere from mere inches to maybe 2 foot. How do they hold up? Does the belt stay dry ?

If it's just a few slow crossings then you'll be fine.
The video below is a fairly stock with no vent or other mods.
This is the deepest water I've been in and I didn't run it more than a few times over the course of 5 days.
If you want to take further precautions then look at the snorkle mods...

I have a buddy with a 50" RZR and his belt slips everytime he splashes in water. I think you have to remove the clutches and seal the cover to engine/trans, and that should get you into a couple feet of water. But you need to be aware of where the engine and belt intakes are, and what your limitations are.

Yet to have a problem with the clutch seals on my 09. Long as all that is good and your airbox is closed tight you can go 2' easy. Look behind the seats at the bed cover in the center. Where it humps out a bit is the location of the factory snorkels. That 2" ledge the bed sits on behind you is the height of them. Stay under that and you'll be ok.

( have snorkels on my, and ride until the water reaches my shirt pocket. Then it is time to go into reverse! And ya might not plan to get into a deep hole, but it just some times sneaks up on ya!!! Snorkels will give you piece of mind that you won't drown out the motor. The air box will cause the most damage if your ride injests water into the motor. I moved my air box up above the bed and have no more worries aboyt water crossings.

Deer, you might as well try it first... your belt cover may be sealed OK. It's a pain to have to remove and reseal the back cover. My 2012 800 seems to be well sealed from the factory but apparently not all are. Two-foot river crossings should be OK on a stock machine. The CVT exhaust port is the weakest link (lowest water entry point) and you can see it under the bed.

Have fun!
