Seriously,my XP was doing exactally what you described, wouldn't go over 40mph and kept hitting the rev limiter, but it was going out over time, first it would only go 70,60,50,40 so I changed the belt and now 74mph no rev limiter until then.
Ok, so I put a brand new belt on and I still can't go more than 40mph? I'm seeing around 6300 or so RPM at this speed and the rev limiter is kicking in? Please help as I have a big trip coming up in a week.
Contact tim. He can probably give you info before or if you gonna trash another belt. Great prices and great person.
Oh alignment on clutches I tightened them up good and ran thru several Cycles. Watch each time and make sure the belt disengages on the primary side. You could have been sold the wrong belt, maybe. Being misaligned wouldn't cause a speed issue that i know of, but I am no belt expert.
Yes easy to do and you can do it w/ out removing the primary. Went w/ epi weights much nicer weights ordered and had them in a couple days. A month later bought primary clutch puller and took to dealer had them rebuild the clutch. Outch about 200 in parts and 200 in labor.
I take it back i did remove primary clutch and took front plate off to replace weights the spring was putting tension on weights but was very easy to do. Make sure u mark the postion of the top plate to were it connects to the clutch because the clutch is ballanced.
I have a 2009 rzr s and the service manual said for that year was 74 gram weights. I think yours should be 62 gram weights.go to rockie mountain atv and look up oem parts for your year and model. Was that the problem w/ yours. I think the oem weights have a number on the side of them.
How long has your machine been doing this? Primary weights should have the # 23-62 stamped on them for 0-5000 ft,#23-58 for 5000-12000 ft,with a black spring in the primary clutch.Didn't you blow up a belt awhile back????
I took them both of and cleaned them up really good. I'm going to take them off again and take a closer look for any visible damage. I'm stumped. The thing runs great except for not going as fast as it should. It pulls hard & smooth with no strange noises. It just seems to hit the rev limiter too quickly or something?
You may want to pull the cover off and raise the rear off the ground and see how fast it'll go? Maybe post up a video for the experts, they may be able to spot something going wrong.
