Hard to Shift Transmission

Hey Everyone,
Hope someone out there can help me out. i've searched all over the interweb but haven't found an answer yet. Have a 13, 800 S that is almost impossible to shift. I have removed the cable from the transmission arm and the shift lever moves just fine. That tells me it's not the cable. I can move the shifter arm at the transmission if i use a tool on the arm. I cannot move it by hand. As you can imagine, i'm hoping there is something i can check and maybe fix before i have to tear into the transmission. it currently idles at around 1250, is that to high? I replace the belt and it does take off a lot smoother but it's still very hard to move the shift lever from HIGH to PARK. Another thing i have noticed is that when i am in HIGH and moving, the H is not always showing on the dash. If i grab the shift lever and pull on it the H will appear. It's almost like the cable needs adjustment. If anyone has anything it will be greatly appreciated.
Thx!!!

Hi Indy
That idle speed is about right.
Now for the hard shifting. I am certainly not an expert but i have a 2010 800 that was getting a little hard to shift.
I read a few post on here about what is called the (Detention ball ) (Detent Ball ) with a spring on it that keeps the shift in order. I did check mine and made sure the spring and the ball were both there, I shortened my spring a little and it did help to make it shift better.
If you have a service manual for your machine you should be able to fellow the procedure it gives you. It dose not tell you where on the shift housing you can find the screw that you need to take out. It is located on the opposite side of the shift lever that the throttle cable is attached to on the transmission. You will need to take off the bed of the RZR so you can get to it.
You need to go according to the Manuel for your year. You can certainly ask for more help on the Detent Ball and spring on here. Be more specific on "Detent Ball " i 'am sure someone can guide you thru it.
Hope this has helped you out.

Regards Dell.

There is a black item on drivers side of transmission held on by two screws with a single wire connected. It is the sender for what gear you are in. Remove it and clean the contacts. Should take care of the dash read out problem.

Detent spring and ball are first things and easy to check.

Does it shift in and out of gear when the engine is not running?

My brand new Turbo would not shift from day one when it was running. Would shift fine not running.

The clutch/engine alignment was way off. Among a couple other things clutch wise.

When it was all settled they put both new clutches on it.

In your case it may be alignment. If the belt has any side load on it at the primary it’s putting pressure on the tranny through the secondary.

If you picture the clutches cocked some not allowing the belt to be perfectly in the center of the Primary clutch it’s actually slightly engaged on the belt. Even though primary is fully open.

Just a thought.

Try loosening the bolt on the detent spring a couple of turns If it gets easier then your problems lies there. If it is still tight then likely internal to the transmission. The small bolt NOT the large one if you loosen the large one you WILL be pulling the trans out. The large one is the ball and spring guide the small one is the tensioner.
