Yes, that's a U joint, and yes, it should have a zerk installed in it. I'd plan on replacing the joint sometime in the near future, but for the immediate time, you could install one, and flush it out with a good grease, I like Lucas red and tacky for universal joints, but any quality grease will be better than nothing..

 

Well for anyone wondering. Polaris uses M6-Fine threaded zerks on these machines.
