Well me and my crew will be heading to Glamis Xmas evening to get there the day after. If there any chance Some of you GURU'S can give me a check list or must have's for Glamis and what to watch out for. I have been to the sand at Sand Mt, and Pismo many times and all that fun stuff but I have never been to the desert to ride. So if someone would care to share their checklist would be appreciated.

On Another Note My wife is pissed cuz we have planned this trip for 8 months and now she is pregnant with our first (which we are super stoked):pepper1::beer2:, but now the DR said she can roll around in the RZR. So any ideas what I can do to keep her happy busy would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, that helped cuz I have all that crap already in the trailer. So just the normal junk and "get me by's"

I have friends that have gone out there before or regularly but I like to be prepared. I like to go for rides so i am down anytime unless I have a mixed drink in my hand and then you will have to wait a minute or so.

If you're going to be out there after Christmas you should come out and meet up with some of us. As of now it looks like we will be out at the loop. Brian GRP721 is a great leader in the dunes. I had some of the best rides following him.

As for your wife not being able to ride....thats a bummer. You could always take her to Olds in a truck if she wants to be part of the action.

Everybody gave good advice.
My 2 cents... bring lots of water. Keep hydrated. Drink lots of water before going on a long ride. The desert has a way of sucking the moisture right out of you.

x2, yes, Brian could lead around the dunes blindfolded at WOT!
I'll be there, and diffidently want to get in on that ride :)

Go to the site: glamisdunes.com

The place is HUGE compared to Sand Mt. or Pismo.

Where R you looking to camp???

Glamis is furthest North and if you camp near the vendors tour wife will have those to keep her bust (I wouldn't recommend this though).

Gordons Well is middle/near the bottom - The plus for this area is the Drive In but, she should be into that. For you there are a number of hills in the area and the run up to the Glamis area is very do-able. The flat drags at Gecko Road are pretty cool too (also a good part of Glamis to camp at).

Glamis Map

Buttercup is the area furthest south. I've not camped here but generally would not recommend it for the Wife or SXS's. It touches the Mexico Border in fact.

Here is a picture of us there.

You can have her go into Brawlet / El Cento for things too.
For food I recommend:
Celia's Restaurant
1530 Adams Ave, El Centro, CA 92243
(760) 352-4570

or have her go get some carne asada:
Ramey's Meats - Home
You and her will make all kinds of friends.

Thank you for the great info. I believe we are staying at the flats.I really do appreciate the info. As for the wife i think she will ride the rzr as long as she stays away from the whoops.
What type of weather shall I anticipate as I need to pack I am so excited for this trip except foe the 12 hour drive or more each way. I look forward to the tours and the rides with you all.

This has been covered already but I want to stress to take extra water than you think you will need---It will be nice for your wife to Shower/Clean up everyday, Also don't try to lead on the first couple of rides, make sure you have a good leader who can pick a nice line (very important), will make the trip much better since you are a newbie to how big Glamis really is, a good leader will sense the witches eyes and rough transitions..... As far as fuel, I take enough for a full tank of riding everyday..(the sand sucks up the fuel) I usally go out for two very long rides a day, one in the morning when you get good shadows from the early sun and then a really nice dune run to the drags when the sun gets low... You can always throw the extra fuel in the motorhome... Have fun and be safe. I have been going 4 or 5 times a years for the last 25........ hope this helps..

You wouldn't want any blame from riding. I'm not saying no riding .. . just not your idea. A lot easier for it to be her fault AND YOU TO MEVER SAY A THING and it be her idea than it is to be your idea.

Never outdrive your brakes. Assume everything you cant see is an immediate drop-off and be prepared to stop just in case it IS in fact a drop off.

Momentum is key, especially when in a SXS since they are so underpowered. When duning, try not to go up/down too much (the "up" part KILLS momentum). look at the height that one dune transitions to another and stay that height around the bowl so you can carry momentum into the transition. Your dune runs will be ALOT faster if you do this.

you can buy a pass, year or week. if you don't plan to go back to much, then a week pass should be ok. you can order it online, or check to see if any local dealerships have them. you'll definitely need a flag. also make sure your rv is filled with water and and grey/ black tanks are empty. there is some rv dumps around there. paddles aren't to important, you can air down tires.
