The General's instrument cluster uses the same pins as the RZR gauge for Can Hi, Can Lo, Constant Power, Switched Power, and Ground. I do not know off the top of my head if the analog in pins are the same, but I think High Beam and Fuel Sender are the same. Note that this is true only if your RZR has a 16 pin plug on the gauge. It will at the very least display all CAN message controlled inputs, including engine hours, engine temp, odometer, speed and RPM. Full functionality is an unknown though.

All CAN based functions will work on MY16 Rzr, as will the headlight. The fuel gauge may or may not work, it depends if the fuel sender curves are the same.

 

opcorn: I want one. Rode in a General last week, loved the new Dash, and instrument panel. Someone please pull the plug and try it out. I just called the dealer, you can get the whole instrument cluster, and housing setup for $390. They didn't know if the plugs were the same. Electrical part no returns, said they could have it there in a week.

 

nice, for that price I would deff. Do it. Sucks about the no returns.

 

My parents just got a general. Guess I need to go look at it, stepdad just might be willing to let me try.

Lol...He's borrowing my tubing bender and notcher right now to build tree kickers, and I helped route some wires for his new rock lights, as well as installed a clutch kit in their highlifter rzr not long ago. I think I'm entitled to a little tinkering.

Pin-outs for the General gauge:
1: CAN-HI
2: CAN-LOW
3: Switched Power
4: Constant Power
5: Ground
6&7: Turn Signals (12V input)
8: High Beam (12V input)
11: Analog Fuel Input
12: Ground causes the unit to turn off the backlight and indicators off.
15: Ambient air temp sensor input.

The gauge is automatically set to function on the vehicle it is first plugged into, so if you take it off a General it will always assume it is on a General. Digital Wrench should be able to set it to generally match a different unit if it is a 2015 or 2016.

I can confirm the the General's gauge will work on a 2016 XP4 Turbo.

 

So you swapped the cluster into your rzr and everything worked?

It would not be easy. The gauge does have 3 screw bosses in the back for mounting. If you are willing to cut away part of the dash you could mount it to the steering column like the General.

Awesome. That is great news. I wonder if they will work for the non turbo models as well. Now we just have to figure out how to mount them.

 

All contemporary Polaris vehicles used the same CAN messages and all the Rzrs use the same basic wiring as I understand it, so they should work on the non turbos just as well. The only thing that might be an issue (depending on the model installed onto) is the fuel gauge (some are CAN based some are discrete, and the tank fuel curve is different between some models).

 

This is good news! I would want to mount on the steering column so it moves with the wheel, but I have the Ryco turn signal/horn stalk and there might not be enough room for both.
Now we need to get a vendor to do (relatively inexpensively!) a new upper dash that makes room for the General instument cluster and leaves a flat area where the original speedo is in the center for mounting GPS/iPad/radio, etc. :ride:

Definitely getting the gauge cluster. Now the question is what to do with the hole where the old gauge is. Any ideas?

 

I was just thinking about this also. I think some work in CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) :rofl3: is called for. Make a template to cut out and fill in the round hole with wood or metal or heavy plastic so that a RAM or other mounting system could be screwed on and mount whatever you want in front so you don't see the original round instrument hole. For me that would be an iPad to use for navigation. With the RAM it could be adjusted to an angle left or right and up and down. :ride:

Cut out a piece of black plastic and use the speedo gauge cluster ring (black red white orange blue) to hold it in place?

 

I am thinking a huge boost gauge or possibly a Bluetooth controller for your phone/music would be cool. Maybe someone can find a clean mount for the bully dog controller in that area.

I was just sitting in a General at my dealer as I picked up our car from the recall work. I REALLY like the instrument pod. It looks like there would not be room to have my RYCO street legal turn signal stalk mounted as well as the new pod. And I do think there would be some plastic cutting involved. Somebody show us how it works please? :ride:

I have seen it done on a 570, but they cut the dash up to get it to work mounted to the steering wheel.
