Fuel Pump issues and Misfire Codes

I have a 2016 XP 1000

To start, I have had non stop issues with the fuel pump on this machine. I have become an expert at rebuilding these pumps. I replaced the fuel pump so many times, the green plastic clip (that apparently isnt sold separately?) broke, and I had to replace the wiring harness last year.

Now im getting misfire codes, I checked the belt, it looks great, no noticeable wear. Machine idles like crap now.

Im fairly certain I have a fuel pressure problem at the moment, I ordered a fuel pressure test gauge, will arrive tomorrow.

My question is, what do you guys recommend for a reliable fuel pump system ? Also as I stated above, the green plastic clip is broken, and I have a metal clamp on it now that doesn't work very well.

Is there some aftermarket system that replaces all of this crap ? Im so sick of dealing with non stop fuel pump issues!!! At this point im will to spend money to avoid headaches.

This YouTube video was spot on, not all the other ones that just tell you to "replace the belt" when a misfire code appears.

I doubt it's a fuel pump problem if it's happening so often.
Probably wiring or ECU
Are you replacing the black plastic piece at bottom of pump?
I bought a used fuel line that has the green clips and installed it next to the original line
If I break a clip I just use the other line or take out the green clip

'tis the season for fuel pump problems or I guess never out of season. I'm going with a Kemso pump for my latest round. Haven't put it in yet so can't provide any personal experience but others around here recommended.

As you've probably learned, a misfire can come from the pump, belt, clutches, regulator, injectors, wiring, ecu, bad gas, bad valve, bad karma. I pulled my pump initially for a lean condition that turned out to be the O2 sensor, so for my current misfire I've returned the stock pump but I don't have full confidence. I need to check pressure too. My secondary clutch is looking rough so I've got a new one coming from AA so I'm going to put that on before I change pumps again. I'm trying not to do everything at one time.

As for breaking clips, I did that too. Here's a part number from NAPA so you can steal those clips off of new connectors. There was a red one that matched for me.

DesertDawg! You are my hero!! I have been searching around for a cost effective solution to replace those little green clips!!

And yes, the codes showed up when it started getting cold!

Yeah I was thinking going Kemso as well....I want something reliable.

I cant blame everything on the fuel pump, last year I drained and cleaned the tank, and it had a good amount of debris in it. I think this happened when the plastic cap , that holds the fuel pump in place, cracked, and exposed the tank. After cleaning the tank, the number of pump replacements has dropped off considerably, but the misfire codes are new.

Glad the clip info helps. I remember searching forever. NAPA had to order it in too.

I had a similar problem running w/o a gas cap (dumb mistake) resulting in a tank drain, wipe down, blow out the lines and professionally cleaned the injectors. One was impacted. That's been awhile ago and it was running great until this event. More recently I changed the pump (back to the stock one I had), changed the plugs and plug 2 or MAG was pretty fouled. New plugs cleared code but it came back. Did a resistance check on the plug wires which came back around 6 ohm which is good.

I'm not ready to program out the code which I'm told is too sensitive. I think ECU problems would be less likely a source but if after my clutch work, new belt, new pump then maybe...

Had decent luck with the Quantum fuel pump. Did you replace the filter sock while you were at it? Early models did have a problem with the plug ends for the injectors being over crimped from the factory and causing issues. If you have a decent auto shop near you they may have a injector test/cleaning station. They could check them prior to buying new ones. Not sure on the part number, but you can find the injector plug ends at most parts store as well.

I also used the QFS, Quantum Fuel Systems pump from Amazon.

Did your ground wire fittings work? The ring from the stock pump was too large and a new one didn't come with the pump. I had to use a hose clamp to attach the ground.

I wasn't happy considering the price of the pump and customer service was no help.

So far, the QFS has outlasted the factory pump. 1100 miles since installing.
