Front Sway Bar Disconnect Technique

Just upgraded to Bandit Shocks so I decided to unhook my front sway bar as well.

It seems there are a couple of recommended techniques...

1) Just disconnect one side. Most posts recommending this say to disconnect the lower link on one side and just zip tie it out of the way. Not sure if that is for a different model with different links.

2) Remove the links on both sides and zip tie the sway bar out of the way.

3) Remove the sway bar completely.

I removed the links on both sides. I'm a bit confused about the "zip tie" technique. Do I just secure the sway bar a little below the upper A-Arm with zip ties? Seems like this would prevent the sway bar from hitting the lower A-Arm guard, but it doesn't seem to prevent the sway bar from moving up (on a bumpy trail) and hitting the upper A-Arm.

I'm probably missing something obvious, but any clarification on how to secure/zip tie would be appreciated!

Here is a photo of my disconnected front sway bar on the driver's side...

I would also like to know. I agree with you that disconnecting only one side would seem to cause problems.

Wondering if you could zip tie each side to the upper A-arm. Leaving enough slack so when opposite arm articulates, sway bar has enough room on non-articulating side to rise without contacting upper arm.

Or, if you lift the vehicle and take weight off the suspension, is there enough room to swing the bar out from between the upper/lower arm backward and upward - just not sure where you would tie it to and if that will then interfere with wheel movement.

BTW, I have no idea what I am talking about mechanically speaking. Just looking at all the parts and thinking there has got to be something easy. We are probably both missing something obvious. Hopefully someone will come to the rescue.

Good luck. Keep posted if you figure it out.

Has anyone who installed Bandit 46's had the front shock end contact the A arm? I did a little filing on the shock end and was ok. I couldnt install the bolt without doing it.
Contacted Ted at Bandit. Says there are within spec which i am not doubting but something to watch out for.

I recently did this with my new Bandit shocks. In the front I just removed one link rod. I don't see any marks of it hitting anything. I tried to do the same in the back, but the sway bar can hit the axle on a big bump. Looks kind of like a light scrape, but I would just remove the entire thing on the back if you decide too. . I keep the front link in my tool bag and can reinstall it in about 5 min.
