Front End Collision - Assessing Damage on Turbo S

Yesterday while riding I was going up a very steep incline the had a steep breakover and down a very steep back side. Unfortunately, a Jeep was doing the same, coming the other direction. Our front ends met on the top with a whack (I just heard something and could not even see), and we both backed down and climbed up the hill from both sides and met in the middle hoping nobody got hurt - nobody did.

My front winch mount was pushed into my radiator which broke it in two places. I am assuming the frame was bent or the bolts were bent, but I am betting part of the frame.

I do have full coverage, so debating filing a claim. I am worried that if the frame is bent that it will be totaled out. This is a 2019 Turbo S Velocity with less than 30 hours on it with some decent mods and I would hate to start all over again, with whatever lowball they give me on a totaled RZR that is basically like new.

Anyone have experience with frame damage of this nature? Any advice? Can they be bent back? I am sure it will be weaker, but not sure how much. I don't plan to sell any time soon, but would be worried about doing any welding of stuff or anything for resale down the road.

I will try to get some pics later today, just wanted to start getting some info.

I doubt it would be totaled. The front frame can be replaced and it's about $2K from Polaris new. My insurance said they could have gone up to 18K in damages before they would have totaled my 2020. Go onto RMATV's site and pull up their OEM parts and figure out what all the parts you need cost. Both radiators and the fascia are in the $400-$500 range if I remember right.

Here is the parts diagram - I see two entries for the frame. I didn't realize it was in two parts, but now I can see where it is bolted together. I would think the labor involved would be absolutely bonkers to disassemble and reassemble it to that point, and reinstall my skid pates and winch.

Is the only option for this a dealership? I live near Chicago so I doubt there are other shops than the dealerships that would do this near me. Maybe out west or east it would be a different story. I am not sure how much I would trust a dealership to do that job right.

I bought it at the right time - I got it for $23,300 OTD including all local taxes when Polaris was offering major incentives on it in 2019 for a 4 seater Velocity. I don't think I can touch one for that today even before taxes.

You can ask your insurance company before you file a claim. Every company has a formula for determining weather to total or repair a vehicle. Most are different.

Mine is 50%. So a $25,000 machine will be repaired for damages costing less than$12,500.

You can then take it to the dealer for an estimate on repairs, then decide if you want to make a claim or not.

Frankly, I never thought I would ever file an insurance claim for damage. I have full coverage on my dirt bikes and break them all the time and would never think to file a claim. My mindset was the same for the RZR. It is an off road toy and as such, things will break. So, I have a $1000 deductible as I really considered the insurance to cover somebody getting hurt or it getting stolen. It didn't even come to mind until my friend asked "are you claiming it?". I am debating just pulling off the winch and starting to fix it myself, but if there is a lot hidden that is broken I would be wasting time and effort when it would be better done under an insurance claim if I end up there anyway. I also hear horror stories about these sitting at dealerships for months. I don't want to miss my whole season.

I going to clean it up now and think a bit more, but I am leaning towards taking it to a dealership to get an estimate on the damages and filing a claim.

Anyway, here is a picture. Definitely needs a radiator, I can't really see the frame to see if it is messed up or not, but I am assuming it is to some extent for the winch mount to move that much. The bolts that mounted to the cross member in front of the radiator look to be sheared off and the mount is bent up pretty good to twist up like that. The bolts on the bottom stayed in place.

Been there, had the exact same reactions. I took mine to a body shop I knew well. They confirmed that in their experience frame damage = total. Nor were they able to find any measurements or alignment reference points for a frame machine to establish "straight"

None the less, they hooked up, made their own measurements, and got it straight. They were reluctant, thinking the frame was chromoly and therefor somewhat intolerant of frame manipulation, but when I assured them it was fully insured and I'd just total it if they couldn't fix it they went for it.

I've never been able to learn this, but personally I think the frame is mild-steel anyway.

Irregardless, one hour later it was straight again.

Now, mine was only tweaked a little relative to yours. Perhaps because I have bumpers, but.. Yours I'd probably let them total.

Whatever you do, think hard before you letyour dealer know anything lest they cancel your warranty or otherwise F you.

So, got the estimate from the Polaris dealership. I honestly am not sure what to make of it for the amount of damage I had, especially considering I drove away just fine monitoring the engine temp. I guess when the frame is hit, that's it, these are toast. I bet more so for liability than anything else. If they fix half the frame and the other half had any issue, they would be in hot water and get sued. But really, a new front diff and new power steering? They were working fine!!!

I am really, really bummed about this. I paid 23 and change out the door for this including sales tax, title, and reg when polaris had the factor rebate going on. KBB value used is around 24,500. New they are 26k now, plus taxes and I don't think anyone is getting any deals. So, if insurance gives me 24,500, minus my deductable, it is going to cost me 3k to back into a RZR.

I think so. But at the end of the day, it was probably close. They know I am doing an insurance claim...now that I am settled down from the shock of it all, maybe they are doing me a favor by making sure it is totalled. It might take weeks or months to get all those parts in and build it all back up. If its totalled I can get a check and get a rzr and be on my way. I have found three in driving distance and checked NADA retail for mine. It lists out at 28,399 suggested list price and 27,925 average retail. Seems high, but if my insurance company goes by that, I will take it plus the $3k in accessories coverage I have. I do have more than 3k in accessories, but such is life. I am going to see if I can do a buyback on it to recover any additional accessories and my friend builds custom 4x4's and does metal fabrication and he will buy the rest off of me and fix/build it into something for himself.

Sorry to chime in late, sad to see they totaled it. I had a similar accident with my 2019 Turbo S Dynamix. ended up hitting a vey large rock very hard with the front end. Visible damage consisted of collapsed lower right a-arm, crunched Polaris winch and bumper into my front facia. Drove it home.

Called the insurance and they towed it to the dealer for estimate. They did some measurements and determined front half of frame was tweaked, radiator bent. Total estimate for parts and labor was just over 8k. they replaced the front half of the frame, radiator, right front suspension, front facia, winch, bumper, etc. I got all the old parts except the frame, which I could have had if I had wanted to haul it home. I rolled one a few years ago (slow speed in the sand) and the insurance company told me I had to take it to a dealer for a estimate. The damage was only plastic on the driver side and with labor included it came to about 3K
I told the insurance company to pay me out and I will fix it myself. After all was said a done it cost me about $1500.00 and it is as good as new.
Just like your list the dealer had every possible nut , bolt clip etc on their list much was not needed but it goes into the estimate either way
